‘Bagani’ Set to Conquer the Internet

Fans of hit fantaserye “Bagani” will soon get to experience life in “Sansinukob” as ABS-CBN will soon launch a website version of the fictional world where users can create their own alter egos and perform challenges.

ABS-CBN creative manager Ays De Guzman revealed this during his recent talk at the “Pinoy Media Congress Year 12” (PMC) held at the College of the Holy Spirit Manila. Ays is one of the speakers that shared knowledge and wisdom to over 1,200 student and faculty delegates that attended the event organized by ABS-CBN and the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE).

De Guzman shared an exclusive sneak peek at the online world of Bagani, where users will go through a click-based adventure across a digital version of Sansinukob with the goal of developing and protecting the tribes of their alter egos.

He explained that they tapped this platform to “explore other avenues to tell stories,” but more so to co-create and engage their audience.

ABS-CBN has previously supported its teleseryes with an online platform when it launchedotwolista.com for “On The Wings Of Love” and “moonchasers.com” and “Youtopia” on iWant TV for “La Luna Sangre.”

Other speakers in PMC also shared how ABS-CBN has been extending its storytelling online as it transitions into an agile digital company.

Ben Ravina, head of digital strategy at ABS-CBN’s Digital Media Division, shared how else the TV viewing experience has spilled over online noting that ABS-CBN viewers compliment their TV viewing by consuming the same content on ABS-CBN video on demand platform, iWant TV.

He added that the adaptation of digital does not leave behind broadcast media, but rather extends it, making it “a collaboration between TV and digital.”

Apart from iWant TV, ABS-CBN is also invested in original online content development through the Adober Studios.

According to Dennis Lim, head of digital media services of ABS-CBN Digital Media Division, the formula for success in building a career as an online star is platform support, content, community, and collaboration. The Adober Studios provides these through their network of creators and content platforms.

The second day of the 12th PMC also featured speakers who shared secrets behind hit ABS-CBN TV shows and films.

Vanessa Valdez, writer of hit Star Cinema movies like “Four Sisters and a Wedding,” and “One More Chance,” and Rondel Lindayag, creative head at ABS-CBN TV production responsible for shows like “Asintado,” and “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” shared what life in production is like and what goes into making teleseryes and movies.

Leo Katigbak, head of ABS-CBN Film Restoration, and Pia Bacungan-Laurel, sales head for Asia of ABS-CBN International Sales and Distribution spoke about film restoration and bringing ABS-CBN shows abroad respectively.

Capping off Day 2 was a PMC version of “I Can See Your Voice” featuring students of the College of the Holy Spirit Manila, and performances from Jona and Darren Espanto.

Now on its 12th year, PMC aims to help prepare the next generation of mass communicators for the field they are about to enter by providing a venue where seasoned practitioners and subject matter experts can share their wisdom and knowledge with them.
