Knowledge Channel Airs Stories of Hope Found in Two Enterprising Family Men

Two enterprising family men who strive to support their families through creative means are featured this week on Knowledge Channel’s “Class Project: Winners’ Festival,” as it airs documentaries by budding filmmakers from Angelicum College and Batangas State University-Lipa this Friday, April 27 at 7:30 pm.

“tSuper” by Angelicum College students tells the story of a taxi driver named Roderic who supplements his family’s income by selling homemade peanut butter. Thanks to a chance passenger and the power of social media, Roderic was able to pay for the cost of his newborn baby’s medical bills after being confined in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for weeks.

Meanwhile, “Gulong” by students at Batangas State University-Lipa features Christian, a high school senior who took on the role of family man following his father’s death. Despite being a young teen himself, Christian works as a tire vulcanizer while going to school to ensure his mother and younger siblings never go hungry.

The educational channel on SKY and ABS-CBN TVplus began its “Class Project Winners’ Festival” last April 6 at 7:30 pm, starting with grand winner De La Salle University-Dasmarinas’ “Lupang Pinangako: Mga Rizalista ng Ronggot,” a documentary on a community of devout believers of Jose Rizal as a deity; and second-placer “Basilica” from the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Laguna that focused on the controversies surrounding the national historical shrine Taal Basilica.

Launched last August 2017 by ABS-CBN, Knowledge Channel, and the Philippine Association of Communication Educators Foundation, Inc. (PACE), the “Class Project” documentary competition aims to give students a chance to hone their professional filmmaking skills and have their documentaries showcased to a wider audience.

In line with this, ABS-CBN News held documentary caravans last year at the University of Santo Tomas and the Holy Angel University in Pampanga, where acclaimed reporter Jeff Canoy was able to share with students his knowledge and experiences in making powerful documentaries such as the award-winning “Di Ka Pasisiil” on the Marawi siege.

Don’t miss Knowledge Channel’s “Class Project Winners’ Festival” featuring two of the ten finalists of the “Class Project Intercollegiate Mini-Documentary Competition” this Friday at 7:30 pm on cable or ABS-CBN TVplus.
