71% of Non-Cabled Homes in Metro Manila Now Watch TV on Digital Terrestrial Television

More and more non-cabled homes in Metro Manila are making the big switch from analog television to digital terrestrial television (DTT).

Based on the latest Kantar Media establishment survey conducted in August, 71.6% of non-cabled homes in Metro Manila are enjoying the benefits of ABS-CBN TVplus such as clear TV viewing, crisp sound, more exclusive channels, and an affordable pay-per-view service with no monthly fees, compared to 55% in August 2017.

The number of non-cabled homes with an ABS-CBN TVplus box in Mega Manila rose to 64.7% from 44% in the same period last year, while those in suburbs grew to 57% from 33% in August 2017.

ABS-CBN has sold 6.1 million units of TVplus boxes as of October 10 since its launch in 2015. ABS-CBN, which is rapidly transitioning into an agile digital company, is also the first media and entertainment company in the country to make the historic switch from analog to digital terrestrial television to transform the TV viewing experience of Filipinos.

ABS-CBN TVplus offers free TV channels ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN S+A, as well as exclusive channels like CineMo, an all-day movie channel; YeY, an all-day children’s entertainment channel; Knowledge Channel, an educational channel that airs curriculum-based programs for primary and secondary students; and DZMM TeleRadyo, which offers the live broadcast of programs from DZMM Radyo Patrol 630.

In July 2018, ABS-CBN TVplus introduced new channels that are initially available in Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Metro Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro. These are Asianovela Channel, the first and only channel on digital free TV that airs uncut Asian dramas and movies and Movie Central, the first all-English movie channel on digital free TV. MYX, Jeepney TV, and O Shopping, a home TV shopping channel, complete the additional channel line-up of ABS-CBN TVplus. Only O Shopping will be accessible permanently free of charge, while the other four new channels will be on free trial until the end of the year.

“The reason why I’m here (in ABS-CBN) is because I don’t (know) how much longer I will be able to sing. And I want to work with very talented singers, that’s it — that before I end my career I can say that I worked with the number one station,” she (Regine) said.
