NBA Superstar Stephen Curry is Executive Producer of ‘Breakthrough’

NBA’s multi-awarded All-Star player Stephen Curry, also known for being outspoken about his faith scores his latest win as one of the executive producers in the incredible faith-based movie “Breakthrough”.

In one of his many speeches when he won MVP, he professed that pounding his chest and pointing up remind him that he plays for God, “People should know who I represent and why I am who I am, and that’s because of my Lord and Savior”.

“Breakthrough” stars Chrissy Metz, Josh Lucas, Topher Grace, Mike Colter, Dennis Haysbert, Marcel Ruiz and Sam Trammell based on the incredible true story of a mom who prayed her son back to life after being pronounced dead by medical experts.

The movie is based on the incredible true story of one mother’s unfaltering love in the face of impossible odds. When Joyce Smith’s (Metz) adopted son John falls through an icy Missouri lake, all hope seems lost. But as John (Ruiz) lies lifeless, Joyce refuses to give up. Her steadfast belief inspires those around her to continue to pray for John’s recovery, even in the face of every case history and scientific prediction. From producer DeVon Franklin (Miracles from Heaven) and adapted for the screen by Grant Nieporte (Seven Pounds) from Joyce Smith’s own book (initially published as The Impossible), “Breakthrough” is an enthralling reminder that faith and love can create a mountain of hope, and sometimes even a miracle.

The miracle of John coming back to life is only the beginning of the story and a catalyst for a series of other miracles that followed. Says Franklin, “Even before Joyce prays for John, it was miraculous that the firefighters and first responders were able to find him in the first place. Lake St. Louis is massive, like finding a needle in a haystack. When they put the poles down in the water, they didn’t know where he was, and fireman Tommy Shine (Colter) hears this voice, telling him where he needs to go. He thinks it’s the chief talking to him, but later finds out it wasn’t the chief at all.”

Says Metz, “Joyce Smith is a force. She is very strong. She has faith in what she believes in and she loves her son wholeheartedly. I don’t have children but I do have a motherly instinct. I taught preschool, I have a big family, and I can relate to wanting to be the caretaker and putting everybody else before myself. Joyce believes that John was created for a purpose and refuses to accept what the doctors say. Her faith stayed strong and she is just like a light of love, pure love.”

Metz adds, “I hope audiences take away that love can truly move mountains. In that collective consciousness or prayer, in that quiet still time, those moments really make a difference in that you can change your life and you can change your mind. And when you do that and you believe in the power of positivity and prayer you would be amazed what could happen.”

A timely feature film release during the Lenten season and come Easter, “Breakthrough” opens April 10 in PH cinemas from 20th Century Fox.
