Calvin Encomienda of Dasmarinas, Cavite, made the Idol Philippines judges cry with his back story.

The 22-year-old young teacher revealed, after singing “Radioactive” during his audition, that he is suffering from some kind of cancer of the blood.

When asked by Regine Velasquez why he joined Idol Philippines, Calvin said:

“Aside from the fact na pangarap ko po talagang maging singer, kung sakali lang naman po na ako ang maging Idol Philippines I will use the money for my medication kasi meron po akong ‘chronic myelogenous leukemia.’ Ang unang naisip ko ayokong magbigay ng stress sa nanay ko kaya mas pinili ko na lang in isikreto sa kanya for around 3 to 4 months. Ang bigat kasi sa pakiramdam ko na any moment ay pwede akong mawala kaya I decided to tell it to my mom.”

“You’re just sick, you’re not dead yet. Enjoy life,” Vice Ganda said. “Naniniwala ako sa galing mo. Kaya gusto pa kitang marinig kumanta gamit naman ang puso mo,” he added.

Regine Velasquez said “Let me just say, alam mo kasi nanay ako e, parang hindi ko ma-imagine ‘yung anak ko na…you seem to love your mom so much. And if you can fight, fight, and pray. Kasi alam mo, si God, randomly nagbibigay ‘yan ng miracle.”

“I just want you to know na itong boto namin ay dahil meron kang sakit. It’s because we believe in your talent, and we want to give you a chance. And we want to hear you and see you again,” she added.
