3 Must-Watch Pinoy LGBTQ-Themed Movies this Pride Month

Celebrate Pride Month with amazing local films that depict romance beyond gender and prove that love is too beautiful to be kept in the dark.

Here are some of the LGBTQ-themed movies to catch this June:

1. “Sa Pag-agos ng Panahon” (“As Time Flows”)

An entry to the short film category of Cinema One Originals 2018, Annika Yanez’s “Sa Pag-asa ng Panahon” is about a lesbian who struggles in coming into terms with her traditional father. According to thedailyguardian.net, the film won Best Feature and five other awards in the Indie Un-Film Festival 2018.

2. “Para Kay James”

Another short film entry in last year’s C1 Originals is “Para Kay James.” It tells the story of Cedric who goes to the wake of his deceased lover, James, and seeks the courage to tell James’ mother about their relationship.

In a review by unreel.ph, the film is hailed as intense and beautiful. Armando dela Cruz said, “Steven Evangelio’s ‘Para Kay James’ is an emotionally charged, vividly captured portrait of the life of a young gay Filipino. There are no villains in the story, except a self-destructive notion that sadly permeates in the minds of queer people every day. . . . Beautiful film.”

3. “Rome & Juliet”

“Rome & Juliet” stars Andrea del Rosario as a conservative pre-school teacher who is about to get married and hires free-spirited Mylene Dizon as wedding planner. This chance meeting leads to a forbidden connection and a life-changing decision between two straight women.

Check out “Para Kay James” and “Rome & Juliet” on Cinema One’s YouTube channel. “Pag-agos ng Panahon” also streams online starting Wednesday (June 12). Like and subscribe to www.youtube.com/cinemaoneph for free movies.
