Celebrate the 70th Year of Korea-Philippine Friendship at the Korean Film Festival 2019

In celebration of the 70 years of meaningful friendship and rich cultural exchange between the Philippines and the Republic of Korea, Korean Cultural Center (KCC) teamed up with Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange (KOFICE) to open the annual Korean Film Festival starting this November.

The festival, which will have the theme “sailing beyond together,” will kick off in Manila at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura Premier this November 6, with the comedy-drama film “Microhabitat”. JEON Go-woon, the director of the film, will grace the opening night with a Special Director’s Talk.

‘Microhabitat’ is JEON’s award-winning, directorial debut that earned her recognitions not only from Asia, but even in other continents such as the US and Australia. The film bagged the prestigious Jury prize award at the New York Asian Film Festival in 2018. While it served as a closing film for the 9th Korean Film Festival Australia in 2018.

JEON’s praised for her skill in making a small team come up with great work. Something that she has probably learned throughout her career, after having started as an actress before venturing behind the camera, as a screenwriter and a producer in 2013.

After which the Manila leg of the KFF will run at SM City Fairview (Cinema 6). This year, KFF will be stopping by seven cities namely Cebu (SM City Cebu, Cinema 5), Iloilo (SM City Iloilo, Cinema 8), Davao (SM City Davao, Cinema 1), Olongapo (SM City Olongapo, Cinema 1), Clark (SM City Clark, Cinema 3), and Cavite (SM City Dasmariñas, Cinema 5).

Other films included in the festival are ‘Miss Granny,’ ‘Little Forest,’ ‘Architecture 101,’ ‘House of Us,’ ‘House of Humming Bird,’ and ‘Parasite.’

All films are with English subtitles. Admission is free on a first-come, first served basis. For more information email info@koreanculture.ph or contact the Korean Cultural Center at (02) 8878-6319.
