HOW TO JOIN

1. The “Mamma Mia! The Ayala Malls Giveaway” promo is from January 7 to January 21, 2012 and is open to Filipino citizens or Philippine residents currently residing in the Philippines.

2. Take a picture of you and your Mamma Mia (friend or family) at Glorietta, Greenbelt, Market! Market!, Trinoma and Alabang Town Center.

3. Upload and submit the photo via Twitter, tag @AyalaMalls and use the hash tag #MammaMiaTickets. Tweets must include the URL that links to the photo entry. All submissions are only officially accepted on the Ayala Malls Twitter account.

4. All photo entries must be made public.

An accountant and a teacher—these are the professions of the cosplayers who were hailed champions in the Hero Face Off Cosplay Competition organized last year by Hero TV, the country’s most wanted anime channel. These winners are now gearing up for a more intense battle as they are Philippines’ first ever delegates to the Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC) cosplay competition, one of Asia’s biggest cosplay events.

Stephanie Sumbe, a grade two teacher who enthralled everyone in the Hero Face Off event with her portrayal as Rathalos Female Blademaster, had to pause from her teaching stint for a while to extensively prepare for STGCC. She, however, promised to get back to her pupils and come back even more passionate for both cosplaying and her job.

Accounting graduate Mary Grace Roldan does the same, as she co-makes a final retouch to her artistically crafted costume. Roldan believes that “resourcefulness” is the edge of Filipinos among other cosplayers in the world.

Melinda Lee, Senior Marketing Officer of STGCC, said that they are very excited to meet Roldan and Sumbe, the first ever Filipinos to join the competition.

“The finalists are chosen based on the judging criteria—the accuracy of the cosplay (costume, wigs, make-up, etc), the character (being in-character, face expression, pose, etc) and the props (if any, weapon, book, leek, etc.) and the two Filipino cosplayers, together with the six other finalists, have impressed the judging team with their submissions,” the STGCC officer added.

A whopping 1,000 Singaporean dollars, or equivalent to P35,260 await the grand winner of the STGCC cosplay contest while the first runner-up takes home SG$400 (P14,101). Six consolation prizes amounting to SG$100 (P3,526) will also be given away.

“Besides the prizes, the honor that a win can bring to our country is what really matters. That’s why I and Steph are really working hard for it,” Roldan said.
