On the celebration of their seventh year, renowned Flipino designer Lulu Tan-Gan and her creative team will be creating a scene that would showcase timeless Filipino Fashion that is both indigenous and innovative in line with Metrowear’s vision of establishing Philippine Fashion in the global scene.

Holigores adds, “Metro chooses a personality who has been an integral part of Filipino design and creativity as seen in previous Metrowear icons such as well-known designers Auggie Cordereo and Randy Ortiz. For many years Lulu Tan Gan was the designer to go for comfortable, classy and even quirky knitwear. Her designs have proven to be ahead of their time, and yet classic pieces that women can still use today. This lady has also been a nurturing force in the careers of many a young and up and coming designer. She has been generous with her knowledge and skills and has always opened her doors to those who need more exposure for their work. Tan-Gan is an icon because she has built a solid brand and a reputation for quality, and has been recognized for her work both locally and abroad.”

In the Philippine fashion scene, Lulu Tan-Gan’s name has been synonymous with knitted fashion wear since 1986. TAN-GAN is an acknowledged leader on the cutting edge of the fashion industry and is best known as a designer label for elegant and timeless knitwear for the confident, fashionable, and active female market of today. She is also active board member of the Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines and tirelessly working in promoting the Filipino label to compete in the global market.

Lulu’s 50-piece collection, dubbed as Pina-Knitwear, for the Metrowear Icon show will be highlighted by her unique fashion point-of-view, as she plays with color, textures, beadwork and fabrics in her pieces.

Director Robby Carmona, who also directed the much talked-about Metrowear YDG/FDCP Show last July, takes his creative inspiration from Lulu’s combination of elements and fabrics coupled with her love of Old Manila. The venue will showcase a combination of antique pieces and modern furniture, giving it a traditional ambiance but imbued with a fresh contemporary spirit. The guests will also be treated to a display of key pieces that will showcase a visual history of Lulu Tan Gan’s impressive bopy of work.

Plus, there will be a silent auction of pieces from Milo Naval and Kenneth Cobonpue.This Metrowear Icon event has been produced with the spirit of social consciousness. Any and all funds raised through this event including a generous donation from Lulu Tan- Gan will be directed to ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya and Gifts and Graces Foundation.

Transcending through history, music, art and fashion, be part of the Metrowear Icon 2009 on November 10 (Tuesday) 7p.m. at the NBC Tent, will be the gathering of Manila’s fashion elite to celebrate the career of a notable Filipino designer.
