The Wansapanataym episode that ruled last Saturday’s TV ratings was the Zaijan Jaranilla-starrer titled “Water Willy.” Top Rank Live – Donaire vs. Vasquez fight, on the other hand, was most-watched last Sunday (26.2%) as expected.

It’s interesting to note that no. 1 weekend programs for the whole month of January–”MMK” and “Rated K“–dropped significantly last weekend. “MMK” placed 5th and trailed behind “Junior MasterChef Pinoy Edition” (#2), “Eat Bulaga!” (#3) and “TV Patrol Weekend Edition” (#4). Rated K, meanwhile, placed 4th, trailed behind “Pepito Manaloto” (#2) and “TV Patrol Weekend” (#3).

Meanwhile, “Happy Yipee Yehey” had a strong final episode scoring 17.3% last Saturday.

And with regards to new programs, “Okat2kat” and “Showbiz Inside Report” premiered last Saturday beating their rival shows.

‘Munting Heredera’ Tops Mega Manila TV Ratings on its Finale Week originally appeared on Starmometer on February 4, 2012.

Kantar Media, which has national samples of 1,389 homes and 8,015 individuals that are statistically representative of total Philippine TV population, reported that ABS-CBN scored an average audience share of 41.2% nationwide based on households watching TV, or a nine point lead against rival GMA that hit only 32.1% on primetime (6 PM – 12MN).

ABS-CBN programs once again proved to be the most watched in the previous month as eight out of the top ten programs nationwide for January were produced by ABS-CBN.

Top-caliber primetime series “Walang Hanggan” instantly rose to the top spot with an average household TV rating of 29.6% followed by weeknight tearjerker “Budoy” and recently concluded Christmas-serye “Ikaw ay Pag-ibig” on the second spot, both with 29.4%.

Kim Chiu starrer “My Binondo Girl,” which also aired its finale, garnered an average household TV rating of 28.2% in fourth while Asia’s longest running drama anthology “MMK” is on fifth with 27.5%.

Newest series “Eboy,” on the other hand, secured the sixth spot despite its only few days of airing and scored an average national TV rating of 27.2%.

Meanwhile, “TV Patrol” opens the year of the water dragon still as the number one newscast in the country as it hit an average household TV rating of 26.3% as opposed to rival “24 Oras” with only 19.8%.

She may be gone for good, but Elisa can still be found in Kantar Media’s most watched list last month as the local adaptation “Nasaan Ka Elisa?” placed 7th nationwide with 24.4%.

Completing the top ten is the number one current affairs show in the country, “Rated K,” anchored by Korina Sanchez, which got the last spot with 21.8% average household TV rating.

ABS-CBN registered a net income of P2.2 billion in the first nine months of 2011, while news media reported that GMA Network earned P1.58 billion net income in the same period.
Kantar Media, a multinational market research group that specializes in audience measurement in more than 80 countries, has 22 TV networks, ad agencies, and pan-regional networks subscribing to its ratings services. Among its current subscribers are ABS-CBN, NBN, Sky Cable, J. Romero and Associates, Adformatix, Starcom, OMD, PhD, Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC, Maxus, Universal McCann, and Wellmade Manufacturing Corporation. They also include pan-regional networks likes CSM Media Inc., Fox International Channels, Star HK, Discovery, AXN, HBO, MTV, and Sony Pictures Television International.
ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court contrary to claims by GMA, which is not a party to the case, that it has been resolved.

‘Legacy’ and ‘Survivor Philippines’ Share Lead in Mega Manila originally appeared on Starmometer on January 27, 2012.

Based on full 2011 nationwide data of Nielsen (December 25 to 31 based on overnight ratings), GMA posted a 34.2 percent total day average television household audience share, outscoring ABS-CBN’s 31.1 percent and TV5′s 15.6 percent by substantial gaps.

GMA noticeably increased its total day household audience share record in 2011 versus 2010 by 3.2 points. In contrast, ABS-CBN’s record suffered a significant drop of 8.6 points during the same period.

In effect, GMA gained almost 1.5 million viewers from all over the country in 2011 relative to 2010, while ABS-CBN lost more than 500,000 viewers across all dayparts, using the assumption that there are five viewers per household.

In December, GMA recorded substantial margins versus ABS-CBN and TV5 in total day average household audience share nationwide. GMA had 36.2 share points, higher than ABS-CBN’s 29.1 points; and clearly ahead of TV5′s 15 points.

GMA was a notable winner in both morning and afternoon blocks, where it led ABS-CBN by double-digit margins in National Urban Philippines.

GMA also led across all dayparts in the important areas of Mega Manila and Urban Luzon, where bulk of television households in the country at 77 percent and 58 percent, respectively, are found.

GMA dominated the list of overall top 30 programs in National Urban Philippines with 17 entries. In Urban Luzon, GMA had 23 programs in the same list; while in Mega Manila, GMA almost swept the slots with 25 entries.

Among GMA’s top performing programs this December were Eat Bulaga, Pepito Manaloto, 24 Oras, Amaya, Protégé (The Final Battle), Munting Heredera, and Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.

Owing to the Kapuso Network’s consistently high nationwide ratings performance, the industry’s top 30 advertisers grew their advertising accounts with GMA by 36 percent or over one third for the period January to September 2011 from the same period in 2010. ABS-CBN’s regular advertising revenues, meanwhile, declined by four percent during the same period.

The Nielsen TV Audience Measurement used by GMA is also used by 21 companies including two other local networks, namely, TV5 and Solar Entertainment; Faulkner Media; CBN Asia; 13 advertising agencies and three regional clients. On the other hand, ABS-CBN is the only local major TV network reportedly subscribing to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.

In Mega Manila alone, the Nielsen TV Audience Measurement has a sample size of 800 homes as compared to Kantar Media’s 770 homes. Nationwide, Nielsen has a total sample size of 2,005 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.

ABS-CBN continuously claims that it has a pending case against Nielsen. But based on available court records, the case was dismissed by Presiding Judge Charito Gonzales of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) on January 7, 2008 for being prematurely filed. The Court likewise denied the Motion for Reconsideration filed by ABS-CBN in an Order dated June 8, 2009.

On January 5, 2010, Atty. Maila Doroteo Santos, Branch Clerk of the Quezon City RTC, issued a Certificate of Finality, which confirms the Court’s Decision on the said case as final and executory. The subsequent Petition for Relief from Judgment and Motion for Reconsideration filed by ABS-CBN have also been dismissed by the Court for substantive and procedural grounds.

Based on Kantar Media data for full year 2011, ABS-CBN obtained a 42 percent national audience share for primetime (6PM onwards) when advertisers make most of its placements, or 12 points higher than GMA’s 30 percent.

For the month December 2011 alone, ABS-CBN reigned supreme on primetime TV with a 42 percent of Philippine households watching Kapamilya programs vs. GMA’s 31 percent. ABS-CBN continued its winning streak in Metro Manila TV ratings with an average audience share of 36 percent and overtook GMA’s 34 percent.

ABS-CBN drama, news, and talent reality programs dominated 2011’s top 30 programs (excluding TV specials) with 21 Kapamilya programs and even secured the top 16 slots.

Filipinos preferred watching ABS-CBN drama series as nine of its shows made it to the top 10 most-watched programs in 2011. “Mara Clara” (33.4%) topped all programs last year, followed by “100 Days to Heaven” (32.6%), “Mutya” (32.4%), “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” (29.4%), “Ikaw ay Pag-ibig” (29.2%), “Budoy” (28.8%), “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (28.2%), “Noah” (28%), “Guns and Roses” (27%).

“TV Patrol,” the only TV newscast to make it to 2011’s top 10 programs, remained as the country’s number one TV newscast with an average TV rating of 27.2 percent. Its competitor “24 Oras” was far behind at 24th spot with only 19.5% of Filipino households watching it last year.

“Pilipinas Got Talent” was the highest rating talent reality-search at 11th spot with an average TV rating of 26.8 percent, while “Rated K” topped all public affairs programs at 14th place with an average TV rating of 23.8 percent.

ABS-CBN’s “Toda Max” (20.8%) led all TV sitcoms, while “Goin Bulilit” (20.7%) beat all other gag shows in 2011.

Overall, ABS-CBN enjoyed an audience share of 36 percent in 2011 vs. GMA’s 35 percent and TV5’s 13 percent.

ABS-CBN registered a net income of P2.2 billion in the first nine months of 2011, while news media reported that GMA Network earned P1.58 billion net income in the same period.

Kantar Media has 22 TV networks, ad agencies, and pan-regional networks subscribing to its ratings services. Among its current subscribers are ABS-CBN, NBN, Sky Cable, J. Romero and Associates, Adformatix, Starcom, OMD, PhD, Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC, Maxus, Universal McCann, and Wellmade Manufacturing Corporation. They also include pan-regional networks likes CSM Media Inc., Fox International Channels, Star HK, Discovery, AXN, HBO, MTV, and Sony Pictures Television International.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court contrary to claims by GMA, which is not a party to the case, that it has been resolved.
