American Idol has been a stepping stone for some Pinoys in the US in launching their music careers.

Some of them who became a household name after making it to the semifinals of the show are Jasmine Trias, Camille Velasco, Ramiele Malubay, Clint Jun Gamboa, AJ Tabaldo, Thia Megia, etc.

This year, one Pinoy is prominent in various lists of rumored Top 24 contestants of American Idol season 11 and she’s none other than Jessica Sanchez.

Jessica Sanchez joined America’s Got Talent season 1 when she was only 12 years old. She did not make it to the finals on that first season of the show where another 12 year old emerged as winner – Bianca Ryan.

Jessica is now 16 years old and according to reports, she made it to the Top 24 (semifinals) of American Idol Season 11.

The annual American Idol spoilers do not disappoint as it always predict the Top 24 with more than 90% accuracy.

The other girls on the list are Elise Testone, Haley Johnsen, Shannon Magrane, Baylie Brown, Hallie Day, Jen Hirsh, Chelsea Sorrell, Skylar Laine, Erika Van Pelt, Brielle Von Hugel and Hollie Cavanagh.

As for the guys, here are the names on the list: Eben Franckewitz, Reed Grimm, Heejun Han, Deandre Brackensick, Aaron Marcellus Sanders, Adam Brock, Creighton Fraker, Phillip Phillips and Joshua Ledet.

Please take note that this list is NOT official. American Idol season 11 has just premiered last week so the announcement of the official Top 24 will be aired some time in February.

During the press conference for the concert at the Manila hotel last Saturday, Thia Megia received a little swipe from one reporter who asked her about what she feels when being compared to Pinay international singing sensation Charice.

“Charice is amazing and she does inspire me. But we’re two different artists,” she said.

Thia was being compared to Charice during the start of American Idol season 10 earlier this year because they both possesses “big voice coming from such a small body.” Their music style, however, differs a lot, because Charice is more on the RnB genre while Thia is known for singing soulful ballads.

This Megia, by the way, has the distinction of being the youngest finalist to have appeared on “American Idol.” She turned 16 last January 30 when the show was just airing the auditions. She got the boot during the Top 11 double elimination last March 31.

“We’re in negotiations.”

That was the only answer Steven Tyler gave FoxNews in Boston this past Wednesday regarding his status for American Idol Season 11.

The Aerosmith frontman revealed that they are prepping up for their new album and they are set to go on tour by the end of the year.

“We’re working on the album right now,” Steven continued, “We go on tour November/December, and we should have the album finished in a couple of months.”

American Idol Season 7 first runner-up David Archuleta is making a coming back to Manila, this time for a solo concert!

It will be recalled that David Archuleta held a phenomenal concert with American Idol Season 7 winner, David Cook, last May 16, 2009 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. It was considered one of the most successful concerts that year as more than 50,000 fans reportedly flocked the venue.

Last November, “Archie” (moniker to David Archuleta by his fans) visited the Philippines to promote his latest album “The Other Side of Down.” He held a promotional concert and a little “meet and greet” with his fans at the SM North EDSA Sky Dome. But obviously, it’s not enough for them.

Now, David Archuleta is coming to Manila for a one-night concert at the Araneta Coliseum on July 18, 2011, 8 p.m. It is being produced by Ovation Production.

American Idol executive Nigel Lythgoe (@dizzyfeet) explained the incident on Twitter that DeWyze allegedly declined to do his last job as the outgoing champ:

I was so upset Lee DeWyze wouldn’t present the winners trophy to Scotty. Especially as he’d been on the show this Season. I guess he was shy.

Lee DeWyze (@LeeDewyze), on the other hand, responded to Lythgoe’s tweet about him refusing to present the winner’s trophy to the new Idol:

Hey everyone, first off I want to say congrats to Scotty & Lauren, awesome job. Well done Scotty! Secondly, just for the record… I was not asked to be involved in the Finale. It wasn’t until about 2 minutes before they announced that Nigel had approached me and asked if he could “borrow” me for a second. I didn’t feel a last second jump on stage was appropriate. It was Scotty’s moment. I appreciate American Idol, and the opportunity it has given me. And the people who have made that show possible. I am not angry, or bitter etc. It was an amazing Finale, and I would have loved to be a part of it. I just wasnt asked. Good luck to all the Contestants and stay true to yourself. A lot of people said Scotty’s single sucks while Lauren had a better song. I agree. But America is not voting on who had the better song or who performed well during the finale. They just vote against what the judges say (smiley). Besides, Scotty and Lauren are both in it to win it!

But who will sell more records? Since Scotty McCreery has a solid fan base and distinct genre which is country music, I’m guessing the 17-year-old crooner will sell more records.
