Maalaala Mo Kaya – The AJ Perez Episode Hits Record High 34.3% Nationwide originally appeared on Starmometer on May 3, 2011.

The said episode titled “Tsinelas” was aired last Saturday night, April 30, on ABS-CBN.

The story revolves around orphaned siblings, portrayed by AJ Perez and Bugoy Carino, who were forsaken by their relatives in the city and decided to return home to Samar on foot.

The episode, which was directed by Dado Lumibao, garnered a household rating of 26.8% in Mega Manila according to AGB Nielsen Philippines. Kantar Media is about to release its national TV rating score this afternoon and there is no doubt that MMK will be on top.

This episode, written by Benson Logronio, is considered to be AJ’s curtain call. This is the last television appearance of the promising young actor who died from a highway accident last April 17, Palm Sunday.

AJ’s family has given the authority to Star Magic to give the official information on AJ’s burial. The cortege route will be announced prior to the said date. ABS-CBN, on the other hand, will cover the event to give chance to AJ fans all over the country who could not see the wake and the burial cortege pesonally.

Two days ago, Dr. Mae Singson announced that Fatima Soriano, AJ’s family’s chosen beneficiary to receive AJ’s cornea, was incompatible for the transplant. Today, Sta. Lucia Eye Bank awarded AJ’s left cornea to one lucky beneficiary named Lawrence Villanueva, this according to a report by Niña Corpus for TV Patrol.

Lawrence, who has been suffering from poor eyesight on his left eye for more than three years now, could not contain his happiness on this very good news.

“God really works in different ways talaga,” the 28-year-old Lawrence said.

Lawrence, who personally claimed AJ’s left cornea, had his successful eye operation today.

Dr. Menguita Padilla, President of Sta. Lucia Eye Bank praises the Perez family in their decision to donate AJ’s cornea despite the pain they’re going through right now due to the lost of their son.

“Humahanga ako sa mga tao na, imagine, nagdadalamhati ka, naghihinagpis ka, namatay ang anak mo, pero naisip mo pa na mag-donate,” Dr. Padilla said.

Dr. Menguita also revealed that AJ’s right cornea will be given to an unnamed 8-year-old boy.

ABS-CBN has studied the facts of the incident and will file a case of reckless imprudence against the Southbend driver. This is in addition to the earlier case filed against the PARTAS bus driver.

Showbiz reporter and host Ogie Diaz revealed on his Twitter account that AJ Perez‘s non-showbiz girlfriend was at AJ’s wake last night in La Salle Greenhills Chapel, crying very hard.

He also disclosed that according to AJ’s mom, Mrs. Marivic Perez, Steph’s is the longest relationship his son had.

Meanwhile, Steph posted on her twitter account her love and admiration to his deceased boyfriend hours after he died:

According to Steph, whose Twitter profile (@stephayson) was previously set to private, she decided to open her Twitter so she could share to the public the AJ that she knows.

AJ Perez was a member of ABS-CBN’s circle of homegrown talents collectively known as Star Magic. He was launched as a member of Star Magic Batch 13. He portrayed one of the lead characters in the 2009 miniseries “Your Song Presents: Underage”, “Your Song Presents: Boystown” and “Your Song Presents: Imposible.” His TV appearances included ASAP, Abt Ur Luv, Wansapanataym, Agua Bendita and Showtime and as a guest in some ABS-CBN shows. He teamed-up with Lauren Young in the television series Lobo. He was also known as a member of the all-male dance group “Gigger Boys.”

And most importantly, He was launched in leading man status starring opposite Jessy Mendiola in the recently concluded soap opera “Sabel.”

He made a total of 10 movies starting off with the MMFF box-office hit of 2006, “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo” and reprised his role as Otap in the sequel “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo” in 2007. His third film was also an MMFF entry in 2007, “Bahay Kubo.” In 2008, he has done “Magkaibigan” and “Kelly! Kelly! (Ang Hit na Musical).” In 2009, he appeared in 2 Ai Ai delas Alas movies, “BFF (Best Friends Forever)” and “Ang Tanging Pamilya: A Marry Go Round.” He made 3 films in 2010, “Babe, I Love You”, “Cinco” and his last big screen appearance was “Mamarazzi.”

He landed his first commercial with Globe and was later cast in the UFC commercial, popularizing the phrase “ye-bah!”. His Milo TV commercial showcased his basketball skills.

Before his death, AJ finished shooting an episode for “Maalaala Mo Kaya.” Also his first starring role in MMK, it’s being touted as his most challenging role as an actor so far. The said episode is set to air on April 30, 2011 (2 weeks from now).

On March 29, 2002, Rico Yan died of cardiac arrest due to acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis while asleep, the day after shooting a television commercial for Talk n’ Text at the Dos Palmas Resort in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. Yan was 27. An estimated 10,000 people attended his funeral rites in Manila, and was televised live on ABS-CBN. He was buried in Manila Memorial Park, Parañaque City.

Early morning of April 17, just right after midnight, Antonello Joseph Sarte Perez a.k.a. AJ Perez was on his way home from a show in Dagupan, when the vehicle he was riding in was hit by a truck. The young actor suffered from multiple head injuries causing his death. Perez was 18.

Both Rico Yan and AJ Perez possessed boyish charm. They are among a few in local showbiz being known for having a “baby face.” Both are prized talents of Star Magic and their deaths can be considered the most shocking since they are young when they died and have a lot things more to offer in the industry.

It was also in La Salle Greenhills where the wake of the the late Rico Yan was held in April 2002. They were both La Sallista.

Meanwhile, the family of AJ decided to donate the young actor’s cornea to miracle child and blind singer Fatima Soriano. That is according to a tweet from ABS-CBN AdProm head Eric John Salut.

Fatima, 17 and born on the same year AJ was born, happens to be Boy Abunda‘s guest in “The Bottomline” past midnight last night, exactly the same time when AJ met an accident and died.

AJ’s body will be in La Salle Greenhills starting this afternoon until Tuesday lunchtime, April 19.

AJ Perez was pronounced dead at exactly 12:20 a.m. today, April 17, due to a vehicular accident.

According to reports from various celebrities on Twitter, AJ Perez died due to multiple injuries caused by the highway accident. AJ, his dad Gerardo Perez, driver Christopher Bautista and 3 other companions namely Christina Ferrer, Edwin Patelos and Danny Linunga were on their way back to Manila from Dagupan City’s Bangus Festival event when their van collided with a Partas bus along McArthur Highway in Barangay San Julian, Tarlac.

The 18 year-old Kapamilya actor was declared dead on arrival at Paniqui Tarlac hospital.

Luckily, AJ’s 5 other companions were all alive and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

AJ was part of the Kapamilya Karavan at the Bangus Festival which was held yesterday, April 16, at the Dagupan City Plaza.

Showbiz reporter and talk show host Ogie Diaz posted the following on Twitter: “Galing ng Dagupan, pauwi na. Tulog lahat sa van. Sa Tarlac, biglang bumangga sa trak. Bago pa nadala si AJ Perez sa ospital, wala nang buhay.”

Diaz added that the truck hit the side of the van where the actor was resting.
