Ordinary Folks Take Spotlight on ‘Showtime’

The newest talent variety show of ABS-CBN opened the door for ordinary people to experience a minute (more or less) of fame on national television.

Ordinary Filipinos basked in spotlight last Saturday (Oct 24) during the launch of “Showtime,” ABS-CBN’s newest talent variety show hosted by comedian Vhong Navarro, actress Anne Curtis, trivia king Kuya Kim Atienza and band vocalists Teddy of Rocksteddy and Jugs of Itchyworms.

From Monday to Saturday, “Showtime” will showcase the delightful performances of Filipinos from all walks of life. “It’s a party where everyone is wanted. It doesn’t matter how good or raw you are, you are welcome to show your stuff because “Showtime” is your show, your time,” ABS-CBN business unit head Alou Almaden said.

True enough ordinary folks who have been dying to be seen on TV had their time to show what they can do. While a group of tricycle drivers rapped, other contestants danced and even cross-dressed to elicit laughter and amusement.

“Here, every Filipino can shine and get to entertain our kababayans worldwide. It’s all about Filipinos entertaining Filipinos,” Almaden added.

The program also allows the viewers and audience to participate in the program in ways never before seen on Philippine TV. Usually, judges and viewers get to boot out contestants, but in “Showtime,” viewers can oust judges too! Judges are made up of four guest celebrities and resident judge stand-up comic Vice Ganda who also provide added comic relief.

With a unique format, “Showtime” easily won viewers’ hearts as proven by its remarkable rating of 14.1% last Saturday based on the TNS National TV Ratings.

This week, the program promises more laughs and claps with more Pinoys strutting their stuff on television. Join the fun with the wacky gang of “Showtime” from Monday to Saturday before “Wowowee” on ABS-CBN.

Kapuso and Kapamilya Unite for Noynoy Aquino’s ‘Hindi Ka Nag-iisa’ Music Video

In a rare turn of events, kapamilya and kapuso stars joined forces in a political music video for Kris Aquino’s brother, Noynoy.

The “Noynoy anthem” music video was brilliantly directed by Onat Diaz with an all star cast including both Kapamilya and Kapuso talents such as Sharon Cuneta, Kris Aquino, Boy Abunda, Ogie Alcasid, Bea Alonzo, Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera, Aiai delas Alas, Mariel Rodriguez, Bianca Gonzales, Erik Santos, James Yap with other PBA Players and more. Asia’s Songbird Regine Velazquez sang the Noynoy anthem while her partner, Ogie Alcasid, composed the song.

ABS-CBN Releases Teaser for ‘Showtime’

After TV5’s “Talentadong Pinoy” became a breakout hit on Philippine television, expect more “talent” programs to come out from the country’s leading networks.

One of these talent programs is “Showtime” to be hosted by Vhong Navarro and Anne Curtis and premiering soon on ABS-CBN.

ABS-CBN is now running the teaser for Showtime but it’s not yet revealed if it’s going to be a contest or just a talent program. The teaser just says “Your show, Your time…” and because time is involved, i have a hunch that it could be something like “30 Seconds to Fame.”

On the other hand, the kapuso network is also coming up with a similar show. The title is “Bitoy’s Showwwtime” with extra emphasis on the three w’s. Does it mean it has something to do with internet or Youtube?

Dingdong-Marian VS Bea-John Lloyd in Valentines 2010

Network war is happening once again in the season of the hearts come 2010 with a Dingdong-Marian starrer from GMA and John Lloyd-Bea starrer from Star Cinema.

The network war during Valentines season started in 2005 when GMA Films released “Let the Love Begin” starring Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin, and Star Cinema released “Dreamboy” starring Piolo Pascual and Bea Alonzo. It happened every year since then.

In 2008, the rival networks did not share the same playdate. GMA Films and Regal’s “My Bestfriend’s Girlfriend” starring Marian Rivera and Richard Gutierrez was shown in the earlier part of February. Star Cinema’s “My Big Love” starring Toni Gonzaga and Sam Milby occupied the later part of February.

The drill continued in the Valentines season this year when GMA Films/Regal released “When I Met U” starring Richard Gutierrez and KC Concepcion. It was shown on the earlier part of February while Star Cinema released in the latter part of the same month, the box-office smash hit “You Changed My Life” starring Sarah Geronimo and John Lloyd Cruz.

In 2010, the king of Valentine movies Richard Gutierrez was supposed to have another offering with “Maybe This Time” reuniting him with former girlfriend Anne Curtis. But GMA seems to have another plan. Dingdong Dantes told the media that he and Marian Rivera is doing a romantic movie set for Valentines 2010.

Star Cinema, on the other hand, is also doing a romantic film for Valentines season. Box-office king John Lloyd Cruz will be reunited with Bea Alonzo in the said film.

If plans push through, this could be the scenario come February 2010. So which team are you in?

TNS Nationwide TV Ratings: ‘Adik Sa ‘Yo’ Beats ‘The Wedding’

The entry of Rosalinda in the primetime race shook the nationwide tv ratings in favor of GMA-7.

Although Rosalinda failed to beat Tayong Dalawa and Only You, the entry of the new teleserye benefited the late-primetime block of GMA.

Marvin Agustin, Dennis Trillo and Jolina Magdangal’s Adik Sa ‘Yo was pitted with The Wedding of Anne Curtis, Zanjoe Marudo and Derek Ramsay. Adik registered 20.5% against the Wedding’s 19.6%.

The GMA koreanovela “Cruel Love” also emerged victorious against ABS-CBN’s Showbiz News Ngayon. Cruel Love registered 15.1% against SNN’s 12.6% last Monday night.

Even Chris Tiu’s Believe it Or Not trumped Bandila, Saksi trumped Kalye and iWitness trumped Games Uplate Live. Bandila (ABS-CBN) got 7.2% against Ripley’s Believe It Or Not’s (GMA-7) 8.8%; Kalye received (ABS-CBN) 3.9% against Saksi’s (GMA-7) 5.1%; and lastly, Games Uplate Live (ABS-CBN) garnered only 1% versus I Witness (GMA-7) which registered 4.1%.

Kapamilya actress Anne Curtis and kapuso host Chris Tiu were named Style Icons by Metrowear magazine.

Check out the full trailer of the upcoming feel-good teleserye on ABS-CBN starring Anne Curtis, Zanjoe Marudo and Derek Ramsay.

The Wedding is the newest romantic comedy in the ABS-CBN Primetime Bida block. This light dramedy teleserye explores the nature of love, springing from a ‘magical’ feeling, journeying through trials, and later finding its way to the altar. When Candice (Anne Curtis) finds out that her parents are separating, she comes up with a scheme to keep the family intact. Candice asks the help of one of her father’s employees, Marlon (Zanjoe Marudo), to pretend that they are having a relationship and are planning to get married. Amidst their fake relationship, Candice and Marlon will end up falling in love. But before they turn their lie into a truth, Candice’s past love Warren (Derek Ramsay) returns to claim her. Thus begins a complicated, merry-go-round affair that will keep hopeless romantics tuned in every night.

The Wedding boasts of an original story, witty sense of humor, and fresh take on love. It also stars Eula Valdez, Michael De Mesa, Alwyn Uytingco, Mitch Dulce, Irma Adlawan, among others.

The theme song of the teleserye is “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Sam Milby.

The Wedding is helmed by multi-awarded director Jeffrey Jetturian and will start airing on June 29 only at ABS-CBN Primetime Bida.

Anne Curtis – Cosmopolitan Philippines May 2009

Dubbed as the ultimate “Cosmo Chick,” Anne Curtis is on the cover of Cosmopolitan Magazine’s 12th year anniversary issue.

The 24-year-old actress is set to return to primetime television with the light romantic comedy series The Wedding. Co-starring with her are Zanjoe Marudo and Derek Ramsay.

According to reports, she was offered the role of “Darna” by GMA-7 to return to the kapuso station where she started. She was supposed to be the co-star of Richard Gutierrez in the now shelved-project “Captain Barbell Meets Darna” because she declined and decided to remain a kapamilya.

However, she will still do a project with ex-boyfriend Richard Gutierrez via the Viva Films and GMA Films co-production “Maybe This Time.”
