The 25-year old Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter–Bruno Mars–is Billboard magazine’s featured artist this month. This, by the way, is Mars’ first magazine cover, ever.

Here are excerpts from the Billboard interview:

On fame:

“When people fall is when they’re like, ‘OK. Now I’m here, what’s next? A clothing line?’ That’s not what I’m trying to do. It’s like, ‘Don’t be a slut. Remember your dream. Do you music and keep it special.’”

On his success in the business:

“It’s a rare thing that happens, especially in this day, where it’s real hard to sell albums. I’m traveling to places that I’ve never even heard of and there are all these people singing the songs back – and English is not even their first language. It’s like, what the hell happened?”

On his drug arrest:

“It’s something that I wish would go away,” Mars says. “It’s a cloud that constantly follows me no matter how many achievements.”

On his plans for the future:

“I’m itching and jonesing to get back into the studio and fantasizing about doing a side project. I’m such a fan of how Jack White and Danger Mouse get down and put these bands together. I’d love to be the drummer in a band that I’m producing, and sit back there and have someone else sing.”

‘Born this Way’ Tops Billboard Hot 100 originally appeared on Starmometer on March 4, 2011.

“Michael” sold 228,000 copies on its first week which is good for third place on the Billboard 200 chart for the week of January 1, 2011. Although the album did much better worldwide, selling 3 million copies while topping the charts in Germany, Italy, Sweden and the Netherlands.

The posthumous album was bested by two female artists, Taylor Swift and Susan Boyle.

Taylor Swift returned to the No. 1 slot on the U.S. pop album chart on Wednesday, nudging reigning champ Susan Boyle down to No. 2.

Swift’s “Speak Now” sold 259,000 copies during the week ended December 19, it’s third nonconsecutive week at no. 1. The album has now sold 2.6 million units making it this year’s 3rd best-selling album overall behind Eminem‘s “Recovery” with 3.2 million and Lady Antebellum‘s “Need You Now” with 3 million.

Susan Boyle‘s “The Gift” settled for second place this week with 254,000 copies sold and a six week-total of 1.6 million.

“Only Girl (In the World)” is written by Crystal Johnson, Mikkel S. Eriksen, Tor Erik Hermansen and Sandy Wilhelm. It’s an up-tempo dominant dance-pop song that incorporates elements of Eurodance in its production and beats.

It’s currently the no. 1 song on Billboard Hot 100 in the US and also the no. 1 in various European countries like the United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Ireland and Norway.

The song was released as the EP’s lead single on October 22, 2010. It was written by Kesha alongside Dr. Luke, Benny Blanco and Ammo who also produced the song. Kesha wrote the song in the wake of news that bullying had led to multiple suicides of gay youth. The message of the song is to inspire people to be themselves, a celebration of any sort of quirks or eccentricities.

Charice‘s “Pyramid” took the no. 1 spot on Billboard Dance/Club chart nudging erstwhile leader, Rihanna’s “Rude Boy”, down to no. 5. “Imma Be” by the Black Eyed Peas settled for no. 2 while “Dust in Gravity” (Delerium f. Kreesha Turner) and “Freeze” (Bimbo Jones) placed 3rd and 4th, respectively. This latest Billboard update will be reflected on Billboard.com this May 22, 2010.

“Thank you so much for all the love for Pyramid. It’s now no.1 on Billboard dance chart,” Charice twitted last May 7.

Charice became the second Filipina to hit no. 1 on Billboard’s Dance/Club chart. The first pinoy to achieve this feat was Jocelyn Enriquez. Jocelyn’s dance track “A Little Bit of Ecstacy” climbed to the no. 1 spot of Billboard’s Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales (the name of the chart back then) chart in 1997. She did it again in 2003 when her single “No Way No How” off her third studio album “All My Life” peaked to no. 1 of Billboard’s Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

Meanwhile on the local charts, “Pyramid” also climbed to no. 1. The mid-tempo ballad is currently on top of MYX Hit Chart, MYX Daily Top 10 and MYX International Top 20 chart.

Charice is slated to release her first international album on the Oprah Winfrey Show on Wednesday (Philippine time).
