2011 has been a good year for the horror program and it continues to dominate its time slot on Saturday nights. Last December 3 and 10, “Spooky Nights” scored 29.7% and 29.9% household audience shares in Mega Manila respectively, according to overnight data supplied by Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

This Saturday, “Spooky Nights” promises to keep viewers glued to their TV sets once again with a scary yet heartwarming episode. Set in a small carnival, “Perya” tells of two lonely people who rediscover the meaning of Christmas when they meet an orphan named Alice (Angeli).

Jackie (Claudine) has been fooled by too many men that she has lost her faith in love. Now, she disguises herself as a boyish woman to discourage men from courting her. On the other hand, her friend Jilmer (Raymart) is a soft-hearted man who always ends up being brokenhearted because women take advantage of his kindness.

Jackie meets Alice because of an incident in the carnival that she manages. Upon knowing that the girl is an orphan, Jackie decides to take her in despite Jilmer’s warning that Alice might be a part of an illegal syndicate.

Unknown to the two adults, Alice is worse than a syndicate. She has a very dark past and her desperate need for parental love becomes a psychotic obsession that makes her kill the people who disappoint her. Can Jackie and Jilmer get away from Alice now that she has entered their life and begun killing the people around them?

Further complicating things between them are two ghosts wanting to take them to the after life by causing their death.

While his wife is on a vacation abroad, Chris (Dennis) finally has a chance to bond with his son, Clark (Migs). However, it seems that only Chris enjoys their current setup because the boy hates him and his new home – a unit on the sixth floor of a strange condominium.

Clark is bored because, aside from the fact that he is staying with his dad, there seems to be no other kids on the sixth floor. Thus, he gets excited and happy when he meets Ena (Mona), a girl who lives in the unit beside theirs. Instantly, the two kids become playmates.

Meanwhile, Chris started experiencing weird things in his condo unit ever since he met Ena’s mother, Lara (Claudine). He has also been seeing horrifying visions – like Clark becoming a corpse and the water in the bathtub turns to blood.

There are speculations that Raymart Santiago was responsible for the mysterious withdrawal from the said bank account because the couple have allegedly parted ways secretly two months ago.

But Claudine and Raymart released a joint statement to thwart the rumor about their separation.

Here is the full statement coming directly from the couple as published in PEP:

“In recent days, there have been numerous negative rumors about our marriage and our relationship, all of which have caused us, our children, and our families undue stress, strain, and unnecessary tension.

In order to dispel all these unfounded innuendos, we now publicly declare, in the simplest and clearest terms that:

WE ARE STILL TOGETHER, we have not separated, we love each other, and we both value and cherish our marriage and relationship.

Any issues that we may have are private, and do not detract from, nor diminish, the strength of our marriage. We ask that the public allow us to deal with our minor concerns without the glare and glee of media speculation that only hurt us and those we love.

We are both deeply committed to our two (2) children, whom we love unconditionally. As concerned and devoted parents, we shall zealously protect their privacy, and their right to be untouched by malice and gossip. We plead with the public to respect their rights: they are innocent children unjustly harmed by the baseless gossip about us.

We hope this JOINT STATEMENT settles and lays to rest all questions about us as a couple, and as individuals.”

In its pilot episode last Saturday (July 2), Spooky Nights had a 23.1% rating among Mega Manila households based on overnight data provided by Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. On the other hand, its rival program scored a far 15.9%.

Aside from leading in its time slot, Spooky Nights also ranked second, next to top-rater Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, among all the high-rating programs on the same date.

Nuno sa Feng Shui gets more exciting and suspenseful in the next episode as Mila (Claudine) takes a chance to have her curse lifted by fulfilling the condition of the nuno: get 3 strands of hair from Stephen’s (TJ Trinidad) head, nose, and underarm.

Weekend TV viewers will see a different Claudine Barreto beginning tonight, July 2, in GMA-7′s Spooky Nights Presents: Nuno sa Feng Shui.

In celebration of her birthday month, the Kapuso actress stars in the horror-comedy series as Mila, a woman cursed by a “nuno” since childhood. She may have a beautiful face but her hips and legs are just unusually and distractingly huge.

Mila lives a pretty plain life–she works in a store, takes care of her bedridden father and believes she will be an old maid. Thus, she often daydreams and fascinates herself with Chinese astrology and charms.

Mila’s life only becomes really colorful when she meets Stephen Lee (TJ Trinidad), the only son of her Chinese employers. While Mila tries her best to attract Stephen, the latter does not even notice her or her clumsiness due to her enormous lower body.

One night, Mila gives food to an old beggar and shares with him her sentiments about her life and her disfigured body. The man then presents to her a magical charm bracelet with a love potion that she has to rub three times against Stephen’s right hand to make him fall for her.

After many funny and desperate attempts, Mila succeeds in using the charm bracelet and Stephen gets smitten by her. However, this also starts many complications in her life.

Stephen’s superstitious mother, Mrs. Lee (Tiya Pusit), does not approve of Mila, a non-Chinese girl who is their store helper and whose zodiac sign is incompatible with Stephen’s. It is also revealed that the old beggar Mila helped is actually the “nuno” who cursed her!

Is the “nuno” really helping Mila with her love problem? Or is he only scheming to take more from her? Will love be real love if only an enchanted bracelet made it happen?

Expect more twist and turns in the story as Mila strives to keep Stephen’s love and overcome her curse. Director Uro Q. Dela Cruz and Head Writer Senedy Que collaborate to give new flavor to the fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast, by adding a mix of Filipino folkore and Chinese beliefs.

Completing the cast of Spooky Nights Presents: Nuno sa Feng Shui are: Marco Alcaraz as Nunok, the “nuno” who cursed Mila; Daniel Fernando as Aldo, Mila’s heartless and bedridden father; and Munting Heredera child star Mona Louise Rey as the young Mila.

“Iglot” is the working title of the fantasy series being offered by GMA-7 to Claudine Barretto. It’s about a child who found a giant egg that contains a magical creature inside.

Supporting Claudine in the fantaserye are former Kapamilya stars like her, Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin. Luis Alandy is also reported as one of the cast-members in the said series to be helmed by Gil Tejada.

The Kapuso network is said to be launching another child star, after Jillian Ward, who will be the main character in “Iglot.”

Contrary to reports, the new fantasy series is set for GMA’s Dramarama sa Hapon block and not Telebabad which means it’s not going to hit primetime television.

Perhaps this is going to be Claudine’s first hit program on GMA-7 since the Kapuso network dominates the daytime block not only in Mega Manila but also in the nationwide TV ratings as well.

Claudine Barretto will finally star in an upcoming soap opera on GMA-7. This is her first project in the Kapuso network for 2011 as her last tv appearance was in “Jillian: Namamasko Po” which was aired during the Christmas season last year.

The 31-year-old actress transferred to the Kapuso network in November of 2009 after almost 2 decades of working with ABS-CBN. Her first project with GMA-7 was the weekly drama anthology “Claudine” and her first film with the network was the romantic drama movie “In Your Eyes” with Richard Gutierrez and Anne Curtis in 2010.

Claudine will start shooting the still untitled TV series this June.

Kapuso actress Claudine Barretto attended the wake of AJ Perez at Christ the King Church last Sunday condoling the family who was left behind by the young actor who died in a vehicular accident.

Claudine has worked with AJ in the teleserye “Iisa Pa Lamang” when she was still on ABS-CBN.

Another reason why she attended the wake is to support, Steph Ayson, AJ’s girlfriend. She believes Steph is going through the same pain she felt when her ex-boyfriend Rico Yan, who is currently being compared to AJ, died 9 years ago.

“Although 21 na ako noong nangyari sa akin ‘yun, she’s 17 pa lang. Mahirap kasi it had to happen to somebody who’s close to me. So masakit para sa akin na makita ‘yun, malungkot,” she said.

Claudine assured Steph that she will always be there to support her while coping with AJ’s death.
