The Harry Potter films is done. The Twilight Saga is ending next. Is “Fever” the next novel-series-turned-movie-franchise to break box-office records in the future?

So what the heck is “Fever”?

“Fever” is a 5-book fantasy novel by Karen Marie Moning. Just like the 7-part Harry Potter series by Rowling and the 4-part Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer, the “Fever” books are also New York Times bestsellers and they are also aimed for the young adults market.

DreamWorks recently acquired the “Fever” series and they are hoping that it will become their own hit fantasy franchise as “Harry Potter” is to Warner Bros. and “Twilight” is to Summit Entertainment. The titles of the 5 books (in order) are: Darkfever, Bloodfever, Faefever, Dreamfever and Shadowfever. Dreamworks will first adapt to motion picture the first part of the series, “Darkfever.”

Darkfever follows MacKayla Lane, an ordinary young woman from Georgia who travels to Ireland to track down her sister’s killer. While overseas, she discovers an extraordinary world filled with ancient secrets, vampires and other tough-to-kill creatures. The protagonist, who has special abilities, is tasked with finding the Sinsar Dubh, a powerful yet elusive book that can help her save both the fantasy realm and the mortal world.

Do you think “Fever” will become a monster hit?

From the director of “A Night at the Museum” comes DreamWorks Pictures’ “Real Steel,” a gritty, white-knuckle, action ride set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech.

In the film, Hugh Jackman plays Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next.

When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.

Opening across the Philippines in October 2011, “Real Steel” is a DreamWorks Picture to be distributed locally by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International.

In an interview with Empire Online, DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has announced that they have plans for 6 more Kung Fu Pandas in the future. That means after the sequel “Kung Fu Panda 2: The Kaboom of Doom” on May 27, 2011, 5 more are slated to hit the big screen!

Aside from Kung Fu Panda, Dreamworks is also prepping up for one more Madagascar film and 2 more How to Train Your Dragons.

Looks like sequels, threequels, and so on are the in thing in the animation industry. With the success of Toy Story 3, Disney is also coming up with Cars 2 and Monsters, Inc. 2.

What do you think?

The funny and well-loved ogre is back for the fourth and last time on the silverscreen in 3D!

Forever After (formerly Shrek Goes Fourth) is the final film in the Dreamworks’ most successful animated franchise “Shrek”. It is set to hit cinemas on May 21, 2010 in the US and July 9, 2010 in the UK and the rest of the world. Tim Sullivan writes the script while Mike Mitchell is at the helm.

The principal cast members–Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots, Walt Dohrn as Rumpelstiltskin and Dame Julie Andrews as Queen Lillian–will all reprise their roles.

Like the first three Shrek films, the movie will be significantly based on fairy tale themes. Here’s the plot of Shrek Forever After:

Shrek (Mike Myers) has become a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, the grown-reluctant ogre agrees to autograph pitch forks. Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre”, Shrek is tricked into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin. Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumplestiltskin is king, the now intellectual Donkey (Eddie Murphy) is afraid of Shrek, Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) is obese and lazy, Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) is still alive, and Shrek and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) have never met. Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all of Rumpelstiltskin’s mischief in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world, and reclaiming his One True Love and family.

But when he encounters (and ultimately befriends) an injured dragon, his world is flipped upside down.

How to Train Your Dragon is set to hit the big screen on March 31, 2010.

Dreamworks has released some photos and teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated sequel to the monster hit live-action adaptation of Transformers by Michael Bay.

Here’s the buzz about Transformers 2 from Wikipedia:

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is an upcoming science fiction/action film due for release on June 26, 2009. It is the sequel to 2007′s Transformers, which was the first live action Transformers film. Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg return respectively as director and executive producer, while Shia LaBeouf reprises the role of Sam Witwicky, the human caught in the war between Autobots and Decepticons. The film introduces many more robots and the scope has been expanded to numerous countries, the most important of which is Egypt.

The main hurdle in getting the film produced was overcoming the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike, as well as possible strikes by the Directors Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild. Bay met his shooting date with the help of previsualization and a scriptment by his writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and series newcomer Ehren Kruger. Shooting from May to November 2008 predominantly took place in the United States, including the majority of scenes set in outside countries, a minimum of which was conducted in those actual nations.

And here is the teaser poster and some production photos:

All the loveable characters are back – Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo, King Julien, Maurice and the penguins – in “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.” Left marooned on the distant shores of Madagascar, the New Yorkers have hatched a plan so crazy it just might work. With military precision, the penguins have repaired an old crashed plane – sort of. Once aloft, this unlikely crew stays airborne just enough to make it to the wildest place of all – the vast plains of Africa itself – where our zoo-raised crew encounter species of their own kind for the very first time. While discovering their roots, they quickly realize the difference between the concrete jungle and the heart of Africa. Despite long-lost relatives, romantic rivals and scheming hunters, Africa seems like a “crack-a-lackin” great place… but is it better than their Central Park home?
