Dyosa Tops Primetime NUTAM for December 2008

Last November 2008, the ABS-CBN teleserye “Iisa Pa Lamang” ended its run topping the weekday primetime NUTAM race. The month after, the fantaserye “Dyosa” took over the top spot with a total rating of 30.3 percent nationwide.

This is the first time the said ABS-CBN fantaserye reached the top of the nationwide primetime race with former leaders Dyesebel, The Singing Bee and Iisa Pa Lamang exited the competition. The Anne Curtis-starrer ended it’s run last Friday and it is expected to top the primetime race again when AGB Nielsen Philippines release the results of January 2009 NUTAM. Or maybe another surprise upset from the rival station GMA?

In the weekday daytime race, Wowowee was able to maintain its lead as expected. The ABS-CBN noontime show received a total rating of 20.6% in the weekday daytime NUTAM and 20.9% in the weekend daytime NUTAM. Following closely is the GMA Sine Novela “Una Kang Naging Akin” with 20.5%. The Angelika dela Cruz, Maxene Magalona and Wendell Ramos starrer almost clinched the no. 1 spot but fell short of only 0.1% from Wowowee’s 20.6%.

TV Ratings: Dyosa Drops to No. 6 to 8

After debuting strongly last Monday at no. 5 position with a rating of 25.7%, Dyosa dropped to 6th to 8th position the following nights. Dyesebel is still the undisputed fantaserye in Mega Manila as it registered more than 10% higher than it’s newest rival.

Many televiewers reacted negatively to the special effects of Dyosa after watching the pilot episode and the trailer of the show. Is this the reason why the newest fantaserye of ABS-CBN was beaten by the following nights by My Girl, The Singing Bee and Iisa Pa Lamang? Or Dyesebel is just too strong to compete with?

ABS-CBN’s newest fantaserye “Dyosa” starring Anne Curtis debuted strongly at no. 5 despite being pitted with GMA’s no. 1 program “Dyesebel.”

The entry of “Dyosa” fueled The Singing Bee to no. 4 and nudged “Ako Si Kim Samsoon” down to no. 6 last night. 6 ABS-CBN shows are now in the Top 10 because of the new fantaserye.

Can Dyosa maintain it’s no. 5 position and continue its winning streak against the koreanovela adaptation of Regine Velasquez and Dalja’s Spring?

Anne as Centaur and Siren, Epy as Faun: ABS-CBN’s Dyosa

On July 7, the wolf will be replaced by a three-in-one creature as Anne Curtis as the goddess of air, land, and water gathers all her powers to shake the tv ratings. Playing as her bestfriend is Epy Quizon, a faun or a half-man half goat if you must.

Anne Curtis reveals that although her latest project, the fantaserye Dyosa, is physically challenging, she is reveling in everything she is doing.

Playing the title role, Anne is the goddess of water, land and sky and has the ability to transform into a mermaid, a centaur (half-horse, half-human) and a half-human-half-bird creature–so she has to get used to wearing different prosthetics and costumes.

“Mahirap siya pero itâ€™s something Iâ€™m looking forward to do. Nage-enjoy ako, preparing and psyching myself,” she shares.

“It takes two and a half hours to do the make up, hair or wig. Siyempre nangangapa pa kami sa costume. Lahat actually mahirap in its own way. Yung sirena, Iâ€™m staying underwater for a period of time habang suot yung buntot. Yung agila mahirap kasi mabigat yung wings, eh. Yung centaur, masakit naman dahil sa katawan ng kabayo.”

Dyosa also helped her realize her childhood dream of playing a mermaid and it was an additional bonus for her to play two other equally interesting characters.

“Itâ€™s so much fun. Every time I have a change of outfit, I really feel like the goddess of air, the goddess of water and land,” she enthuses.

As part of the upcoming fantaserye Dyosa, Epy Quizon gets to show off his versatility once again as he takes on another offbeat role. Epy plays a half-man, half-goat character who will be Dyosaâ€™s guardian. â€œIâ€™m a good but very mischievous character. Iâ€™m going to be very playful and naughty, but Iâ€™m on the good side,â€ he shares.

Playing quirky roles isnâ€™t new to Epy as he has already played a half-man, half-rat role in the 2003 movie Captain Barbell. The 35-year-old actor also admits his interest in fantasy and in collecting different kinds of masks. For Dyosa, Epy let his instincts take over on how to tackle the role.â€œI didnâ€™t exactly have a character peg until I wore my costume. I think as soon as you wear the costume, the quirkiness of the character will come out. Binagay ko na lang yung galaw doon sa costume,â€ he explains.

Epy also had to don heavy prosthetics on top of his costume. Although he admits that he doesnâ€™t mind the almost three-hour prosthetics application, he does find it a challenge to work in sometimes. â€œPart of what intrigued me about the role is that it is physically challenging. The mask becomes heavy after a few hours. The weight becomes annoying already. Thatâ€™s the time that it becomes very challenging. Sometimes, it comes to a point where I tell myself, â€˜Am I in the wrong profession?â€™ But of course Iâ€™m not. I enjoy what I do. Putting on stuff like this to entertain people,â€ he admits.

Being the son of the King of Comedy Dolphy, Epy shares that people have certain expectations of him as an actor. â€œA lot of people ask me, â€˜Ano ka ba talaga, komedyante ka ba? Dramatic actor ka ba? Kontrabida ka ba?â€™ Me, I think I just have to act. I donâ€™t want to be branded as a comedian. I just want to be an actor. An actor to me means acting. So whether my role is bida, kontrabida or gay, when I take on a role, most often that not, I want to do it. And if you really want to do something, maybe thatâ€™s why people view you as an effective actor. Parang they see the passion you put into doing it,â€ he offers.

When it comes to acting, Epy admits to admiring Joel Torre, his kuya Eric Quizon and of course, his father Dolphy. â€œI look up to a lot of people in the industry. To improve my craft, I just go back to stage. Theater is actually what improved my craft. Or once in a while nag-wo-workshop ulit ako,â€ he adds.

Epy also recently made his first directorial debut, with a documentary film entitled The Dancer Within. Currently in its editing stage, the film is about an indigenous dance that has the power to heal.â€œIâ€™ve always been into directing. Growing up, Iâ€™ve seen how my family has always been into making films right and left. Part of my college life was documentary films and filmmaking. It was also part of my course. So I was bound to eventually get into that rin,â€ Epy says.

A consummate actor and aspiring director, Epy says that show business will always be a part of his life. â€œEven if I werenâ€™t an actor, Iâ€™d probably still be in entertainment. Iâ€™d still entertain people. Iâ€™d probably a rock star (laughs),â€ Epy concludes.

Eighteen-year-old Dyosa is living a normal life as a student, a part-time cosplay model and a loving daughter to her midget parents when she discovers that she is not an ordinary girl. A half-man half-goat appears before Dyosa on her 18th birthday to reveal that Dyosa is actually a goddess, a descendant of Mariang Sinukuan and Bernardo Carpio, who is destined to rule the world of the upper gods.

Dyosa has to make a choice: Will she heed the call of her destiny and save the dying world of the Philippine gods and goddesses and leave the life she has lived for 18 years? Or will she resist her new role as a goddess and give up her powers to stay in the human world with the mortal she loves?

Fil-Australian actress Anne Curtis (Kampanerang Kuba, Maging Sino Ka Man, When Love Begins) was chosen to play the lead role in the upcoming fantaserye on ABS-CBN “Dyosa”.

Here’s the synopsis of Dyosa:

Dyosa is a goddess of the four elements which are Water, Air, Fire, and Earth. Anne Curtis’ character in Dyosa can transform in to Mermaid (half-fish), a Kentaurides (half-horse or Centaur), or a Siren (half-bird)
