This is one of the funniest moments in the recently-concluded Emmy Awards 2011.

After presenters Sofia Vergara and Robe Lowe announced her name as one of the nominees, Amy Poehler of “Parks and Recreation” rushed to the stage followed by the rest of the “Best Actress in a Comedy Series” nominees: Melissa McCarthy for “Mike & Molly”, Edie Falco for “Nurse Jackie”, Tina Fey for “30 Rock”, Laurie Linney for “The Big C” and Martha Plimpton for “Raising Hope”, when their names were called.

The winner got a crown just like Miss Universe! She’s no other than Melissa McCarthy for “Mike and Molly.”

McCarthy, on her speech, said “Wow, it’s my first and best pageant ever!”

It’s a winning moment-filled August on Velvet.

Once again, the country’s premium general entertainment channel for women puts the Filipina viewer in the front row of the world’s most anticipated events with telecasts of Miss Universe 2010 and the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards this month.

Catch our very own Miss Philippines Maria Venus Raj as she competes against beautiful and talented women from more than 80 countries on the double primetime telecasts of Miss Universe 2010 at 6:30pm and 10pm on August 24.

Relive the spectacular moments in the most popular competition on beauty, intelligence, poise, and grace on its weekend replays on August 25, 26, and 27 at 9:30pm, 10pm, and 12noon, respectively.

Join the world in honoring the best in American primetime television on Velvet’s live telecast of the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards on August 30. Velvet’s top programs “The Good Wife”, “Nurse Jackie”, “The 82nd Annual Academy Awards” and “So You Think You Can Dance” are crowd favorites, with an impressive 32 nominations in total.

The red carpet arrivals and interviews begin at 7am with the Awards Pre-Show, followed by the main ceremony at 8am. The Emmys will have its primetime telecast later that same day beginning at 6pm.

Even before these much-awaited events, Velvet begins its winning streak with prized acquisitions of hot new shows from the US led by “Nurse Jackie,” starring three-time Emmy Award winner Edie Falco.

“Nurse Jackie,” which premieres next Thursday (Aug 12) at 9:30pm, is a series about a strong-willed, brilliant but flawed emergency room nurse working in a complicated and frenzied New York hospital. With its wicked dark comedy and awesome cast, the half-hour show quickly gained a large following in the U.S., and was immediately renewed for a second season after only one telecast.

Another medical drama premiering this month on Velvet is “Three Rivers,” a bittersweet multifaceted series that gets inside the emotionally complex lives of organ donors, recipients and transplant surgeons.

Beginning August 19 at 10pm, follow lives of the dedicated, confident, tenacious and headstrong doctors of “Three Rivers,” as they operate on the toughest cases in an arena that takes more than just skill and a sharp scalpel.

The high-flying pilot episode of reality show “Fly Girls,” which premiered last August 4 on Velvet, features the lives of five fabulous jet-setting flight attendants of American airline Virgin America. Follow their quest for good times, adventure, and love while they face challenges at work and in their personal lives every Wednesday at 8:30pm.

It’s a win-win situation for viewers this August in another star-studded and excitement-filled month only on the country’s premium general entertainment channel for women, Velvet (SkyCable channel 53).
