“Terra Nova” follows an ordinary family on an incredible journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as a small part of a daring experiment to save the human race.

The show begins in the year 2149, a time when all life on planet Earth is threatened with extinction. In an effort to save the human race, scientists develop a portal allowing travel 85 million years back in time to prehistoric Earth. The Shannon family (father Jim, his wife Elisabeth, and their three children Josh, Maddy and Zoe) join the tenth pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova, the first human colony on the other side of the temporal doorway. However, they are unaware that the colony is in the middle of a group of carnivorous dinosaurs.

The series, which is set to air on Monday nights this Fall, stars Jason O’Mara, Stephen Lang, Shelley Conn, Landon Liboiron, Naomi Scott, Allison Miller, Alana Mansour, and Elisabeth Shannon.

The Warner Bros. Pictures Group broke the all-time industry worldwide box office record with a 2010 gross of $4.814 billion, which surpasses the prior record of $4.010 billion (set by Warner Bros. in 2009). The announcement was made January 4 by Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

Setting new benchmarks for both the international and global box office grosses in 2010 and retaining the domestic box office number one ranking (after achieving a record gross in 2009), the Studio now holds the industry record in all three categories. Additionally, Warner Bros. surpassed its own worldwide gross from the previous year by $800 million to earn the number one position in worldwide market share for the second consecutive year and for the sixth time in the past 10 years, also an industry record.

“We are so proud of these incredible accomplishments, which were made possible through the global efforts of an exceptional group of people who collaborated to create, produce, market, and distribute more than two dozen films this past year,” said Robinov. “We have a terrific leadership team behind these efforts, including Sue Kroll, Dan Fellman and Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, and, along with Barry Meyer and Alan Horn, I applaud everyone who contributed to this year’s record-breaking success.”

Warner Bros. Pictures’ domestic gross is estimated at $1.884 billion, making it number one in domestic market share for 2010. This is the third year in a row the Studio has held that crown and is the only studio to exceed the $1 billion threshold domestically for 10 consecutive years. Warner Bros. has been ranked either one or two domestically for seven of the last 10 years. The Studio had five films gross over $100 million domestically in 2010 – “Inception,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1,” “Clash of the Titans,” “Valentine’s Day,” and “Due Date.”

“Our tentpole strategy combined with a remarkably diverse overall slate has once again proved enormously profitable at the box office,” said Dan Fellman, President, Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. “We could not be more proud of the Studio’s achievements this year.”

Warner Bros. Pictures International set a new industry record in overseas box office with an estimated $2.930 billion year-end gross, breaking the previous industry record of $2.450 billion in 2009. This is the tenth consecutive year the Studio has exceeded $1 billion and third time it has surpassed $2 billion in international box office receipts. The Studio has had seven films gross more than $100 million internationally in 2010 – “Sherlock Holmes” ($264 million, for a total of $315 million, including 2009’s take); “Valentine’s Day” ($106 million); “Clash of the Titans” ($330 million); “Sex and the City 2” ($193 million); “Inception” ($531 million); “Due Date” ($100 million); and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1” ($611 million, and still in release).

FOX International Channels (FIC) territory director Jude Turcuato and other FIC officials welcomed the guests who were all eager to see the director’s cut of Flash Forward’s pilot episode, “No more good days.”

“We are thrilled to finally bring this global blockbuster TV series to our local cable TV channels. I’m sure that viewers will find Flash Forward’s 23 episodes worth watching with its special effects and suspenseful storytelling,” Turcuato said.

The event became even more exciting when the guests were offered a chance to have their own “flashforward” experience or a glimpse of their possible future through a tarot card reading by members of Spirit Questors Inc.

FlashForward’s pilot episode was shown over dinner, and guests were amazed at the sci-fi television series’ impressive visual effects, the same production element that attracted 12.5 million viewers when it was launched in the U.S.

After the dinner and premiere screening, the guests were treated to an equally-exciting lights and fountain show at the Manila Ocean Park.

A big budget sci-fi series in the tradition of Lost, FlashForward stars British actor Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love and Enemy at the Gates) who plays Los Angeles FBI agent Mark Benford investigating a mysterious event that caused nearly everyone on the planet to simultaneously lose consciousness for 2 minutes and 17 seconds. During this brief “blackout,” people saw glimpses of their lives on April 29, 2010 or six months into the future—a global “flashforward.”

After the much publicized increase of Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell’s salary for the upcoming 9th season of American Idol, it’s sad that Paula Abdul will no longer reprise her job as one of the judges.

Paula and her manager were demanding an increase in her salary but the Idol producers felt she was not worth what she was asking. Instead of settling with her current salary, Paula decided to quit.

Paula’s exit from the no.1 television show on the planet was confirmed via her Twitter account. Straight from the horse’s mouth:

“With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to IDOL. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all…being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon. What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me … It truly has been breathtaking, especially over the past month … I do without any doubt have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all.”

Kara DioGuardi, on the other hand, confirms her return on American Idol judging panel next season. Randy Jackson has inked his stay until 2011. Simon Cowell signed a three-year contract so we’ll be seeing him until 2012. So the judging panel is back to 3, two guys and a lady.

Fox network decided not to air the animated series’ “Partial Terms of Endearment” episode for tackling the sensitive subject of abortion.

They released a statement saying, “Fox will not air the Partial Terms of Endearment episode of Family Guy, but we fully support the producers’ right to make the episode and distribute it in whatever way they want.”

The controversial episode can only be seen once the full season DVD hits the market.

It is set within the fictional William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio. A pilot episode of the show was broadcast after American Idol on May 19, 2009, and the rest of the season will begin airing on September 16, 2009. The show was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, and originally envisioned as a film rather than a TV series. Murphy selects all music featured within the series himself, and intends to maintain a balance between show tunes and chart hits. Because of the extensive choreography necessary to stage the show’s musical numbers, episodes can take up to 10 days to film, and cost over $3 million to produce.

The broadcast of the pilot episode averaged 10 million viewers. Critical response was mixed, with The New York Times’ Alessandra Stanley highlighting the episode’s unoriginality and stereotyped characters, but praising the showmanship and talent of the cast. The Daily News’ David Hinckley opined that the show was imperfect and implausible but “potentially heartwarming”, while USA Today’s Robert Bianco noted casting and tone problems, but commented positively on the show’s humour and musical performances. Mary McNamara for the LA Times wrote that the show had a wide audience appeal, calling it: “the first show in a long time that’s just plain full-throttle, no-guilty-pleasure-rationalizations-necessary fun”.

In the past season of American Idol, Ryan earned slightly less than $5 million which breaks down to about $100,000 per episode. Now, the 34-year-old tv/radio host has closed a major new three-year deal worth $15 million per year.

After Seacrest, Idol producers are now negotiating for the show’s judges for next season.

The acid-tongued judge Simon Cowell has made statements that he might leave the singing competition when his contract is up at the end of next season. He is now demanding a salary of more than $100 million per year.

The other judges — Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Kara DioGuardi — all have said they hope to close deals to return next season.

Although the ratings of American Idol last season have declined, it remains the no. 1 tv program on the planet by a mile.
