After breaking several box-office records on its opening three weeks ago, Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 became the first film in the franchise to reach the $1 billion mark worldwide.

The final “Harry Potter” film, on Saturday, has grossed $296 million in the US and $630 million overseas for a global total of $926 million. Come Sunday (US time), it’s being expected to easily pass the vaunted $1 billion mark.

The highest-grossing in the franchise was still the first installment, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” By the end of this weekend, Deathly Hallows Part 2 should surpass Sorcerer’s Stone’s domestic gross of $317 million. It also will have surpassed the $659 million earned last year internationally by Deathly Hallows Part 1.

The final Harry Potter movie had a remarkable debut in different parts of the world yesterday, grossing an estimated $43.6 million in 26 territories.

According to Box Office Mojo, the movie set opening day records in Australia ($7.5 million), Italy ($4.6 million), Sweden ($2.1 million), Norway ($1.8 million), the Netherlands ($1.7 million), Denmark ($1.6 million), Belgium ($1.4 million) and Finland ($749,000). It also claimed the Wednesday opening record in France ($7.1 million), the preview record in Germany ($5.3 million), and the Warner Bros. opening day record in Russia ($4.1 million).

Across the same group of territories, that opening day is up 82 percent on “Deathly Hallows Part 1″ and 49 percent on “Half-Blood Prince.”

The Harry Potter opening weekend record is held by “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” which debuted to $236 million worldwide two years ago. Warner Bros. is optimistic that “Deathly Hallows Part 2″ will break that record as the film debuts on 19,500+ screens in 59 other foreign territories this weekend.

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. Pictures announced that the Harry Potter finale has conjured over $32 million in advance ticket sales, setting a new pre-opening benchmark.

Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series of movies, became emotional during the premiere of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” at the Trafalgar Square in London.

According to Zimbio, Watson cried uncontrollably when she and her co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint talked to fans about their own experiences throughout the filming of the movie franchise which lasted for a decade.

Wearing an Oscar de la Renta gown, Watson reportedly said:

“How do I put into words what all of this has meant to me? It will always be a part of who I am and I feel blessed to have shared it.”

And,

“I’ve had the most amazing ten years of my life. Thank you so much.”

At the end of his decade-long journey playing Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe shares a sense of gratitude and pride as he, together with the cast and crew, brings the historic film series to a close in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.”

Radcliffe reflects, “I know I’ll never see a frame of these films that I don’t connect immediately to a memory of a place or a time or a person. Even now I can’t fully express how important it’s been to me, but I can say it was a great time and it’s something I will never be able to recreate.”

Question: Has there been any crying since you all know the “Harry Potter” films are ending?

Daniel Radcliffe: There was lots of crying for Emma, Rupert and I, and the crew as well because a lot of them have been there for 10 years as well. So, there were lots of tears from everybody, really. It was very sad. And, at the time, I remember sort of being quite inconsolable for like two hours. And then four hours later I was on a plane and I was reading a script for another movie. So, we move on. [Laughs]

Q: We’ve seen over the ten years how you’ve changed. But how haven’t you changed? How have you remained the same?

Radcliffe: I’m still very hyperactive. I’ve still got quite a lot of energy. I think the one thing that’s different is that I have worked out a way in which I can sort of pace that energy more sensibly throughout the day so I don’t just go nuts for four hours and then crash and burn. [Laughs] I’m probably still as curious now as I was then. I think curiosity is probably the greatest thing anybody can have. And I think I’m still quite respectful of a film set as I was then. But when I was 11, it was out of a sort of awe that I had respect for film sets.

Q: The fandom for Harry Potter has grown so huge and is constantly evolving and growing with the films. What are your thoughts on just the sheer size and scale of it?

Radcliffe: In terms of the actual scale of Potter, I think it is amazing. In a way, one of the things that keeps me grounded and sane is the fact that you have to remember that it’s not because of me that people are screaming at the premieres. Anybody who got this part would have had that level of mania surrounding them a few weeks a year. And I think that’s very important to remember. I just got very, very lucky with the part that sort of I fell into.

The other thing I think I’d say about the fans and about the scale is the fact that it’s interesting, because Harry Potter—even though there are films now—is still, at the heart of it, a literary phenomenon. And when you compare the fans of this to something, say like Star Trek or Star Wars, all of which have that same incredibly devoted fan base, because it starts off as a literary thing, it’s kind of inspired a generation of really, really, literate, interesting fans, people who—having been so inspired by the Potter books—have then gone off and expanded their reading into other areas. I think that’s the most remarkable thing about it. I don’t think there are any other kinds of fans like Harry Potter fans, who are so interested in everything, not just the thing that is the focus of their fandom.

Q: When you were reading the Potter books, did you ever think, ‘I would love to be Harry Potter’?

Radcliffe: No. Not particularly. His life sounded like a nightmare. [Laughs] I kind of thought, ‘God, this poor kid.’ But, I think, after I got the part, I then went back and read all four—I think only the first four had come out at that point—and I read them all back to back and just became obsessed. I would charge around my room, despite having been filming as him during the day, I would [Laughs] tell my grandma over at my hotel room in Newcastle where we were filming the scenes where the broom leaps up into my hand, and I would be going back to my hotel room at night and having wand fights with nobody. [Laughs] Oh, yes, it’s a pity I didn’t have a brother. Yeah.

Q: Emma has been concentrating on college. Are you going to concentrate on your career?

Radcliffe: I’m gonna try to make a career for myself. You know, Emma’s the most academic cat of all three of us by quite a long way. [Laughs] So, I don’t think like university would have been on the cards for myself and Rupert. [Laughs] I found school very, very hard. I got good results most the time, but then I dropped out a year early because I was going to rehearsals for “Equus” and, to be honest, I think, well, I found something that I have some aptitude with, or I hesitate to say I’m good at because I’m so far away from being finished at art school and I’ve still got a lot to learn. But I certainly think I’m better at this than I would be at anything else. So I’m going to try and just focus on that and try and make as long a career of myself as possible.

Q: I imagine you just getting mobbed in the streets. Is the public used to you now?

Radcliffe: I think around my area they are quite used to me. It’s kind of, ‘Oh, there he is again.’ But, also, it’s the advantage of being 5’5”—no one really looks twice. If you’re just a skinny face in a crowd, it doesn’t attract too much attention.

Q: Was it ever out of control?

Radcliffe: Not really. Only in Japan. It went wild when I was in Japan. It’s amazing because it manages to be both aggressive and incredibly restrained at the same time. They will charge towards you, but it is like there is an invisible barricade two feet from you. And they will not go past that. It’s really incredible. It is like having some sort of force field to protect you. I mean, when I arrived in Japan when I was 13, there were five thousand people waiting in the airport arrival screaming. I mean, it was pretty intense. I am a Beatle in Japan.

“For the first two movies, I had a huge crush on Tom Felton,” Watson told Seventeen. “He was my first crush. He totally knows. We talked about it – we still laugh about it. We are really good friends now, and that’s cool.”

As Rupert Grint says goodbye to playing Ron Weasley, the young actor shares what transpired during the last shooting day of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2,” as well as his plans post-“Potter.”

Question: Did the cast and crew do anything special on the last day of shooting?

Rupert Grint: Yeah, they played a video. We did this thing called the Golden Board. Have to have Dan [Radcliffe] explain that, but it’s basically a big count-down. This film was like 260 days or something. Every day we had this board, like ‘day one,’ ‘day two’ and each time it would be a silly saying and stuff. They kind of edited all that together and it was just really nice to see that. It was actually quite emotional too.

Q: We heard your birthday happened during shooting? Tell us about that.

Grint: It was cool. It was my Golden Board. They set up a piñata in the Weasley house and I was trying to hit it and, yeah, that was quite good.

Q: Within this family of Harry Potter, you also have the Weasleys. Do you guys feel a certain bond in terms of this being your on-screen family that will always be close?

Grint: Yeah. Definitely. We have Julie Walters, ‘cause I’ve worked with her before outside of “Potter,” and she, naturally, is quite a motherly type and she’s seen us grow up as well. And she really kind of cares about us. The twins as well. I’m really good friends with them. I see them quite regularly, yeah, so we’ll always kind of see each other.

Q: Is there any particular scene in all the films that you wish you could have been in, even as a different character?

Grint: I think, in the sixth film, I really liked the scene with Harry and Dumbledore in the boat. That was really cool.

Q: Do you have ideas about maybe directing some day or what you might like to do 10 years from now?

Grint: Directing’s a nice idea, but in 10 years I’m not sure. I definitely want to keep on acting, and just do different roles. I’m looking forward to that.

Q: You’ve had quite a variety of roles in 10 years, between “Harry Potter” and some of the other films you’ve done.

Grint: I’m quite keen. I’m always going to miss “Harry Potter,” but it’s the right time to move on and I’m ready to do different things.

Q: Have you any other projects lined up in the near future?

Grint: Yeah, there are a few things; nothing definite yet. But it has been nice just to have a break now. This last film was really exhausting and I haven’t been on holiday for like three years and it was nice to kind of finally do that.

Q: They’re going to be turning the studio into a museum. Have you thought about that?

Grint: I know, yeah. They said they were going to make replicas of our dressing rooms as well so people can see them. It’s just quite a weird thought, but yeah, that’s great. I mean, it’s such a special place to us because I’ve spent more time there than my own home, really, and to know that it’s going to live on is really great.

Q: You’ve bought some outrageous things in the past. You mentioned a mini-ice rink? What’s some of the items you may have purchased that are not sort of everyday items?

Grint: I supposed I’ve got some weird things. The latest thing is we’ve got miniature donkeys. They’re just like normal donkeys, but kind of half the size.

Q: How many and what are their names?

Grint: Just two. Shakespeare and Pandora. [Laughs]

Q: For breeding purposes or just as pets?

Grint: Just as pets, yeah. I’ve got miniature pigs as well, and miniature hedgehogs.

Q: How many different animals do you have? I mean, your entire family?

Grint: We’ve obviously got dogs and cats and a parrot and peacocks.

Q: You’ve got a zoo! What size of place do you have to have all these things?

Grint: I live in the country, really. Just outside London. There’s a few acres, yeah. They’ve got some good space.

J.K. Rowling, the author of the phenomenal book series which turned into blockbuster movies, has released a mysterious website called “Pottermore.”

There’s nothing much in Pottermore.com, just a magenty background and a couple of owls with the words “Coming Soon” and the signature of the richest author in the world.

The mystery continues if you click either of the owls on the homepage. You’ll be taken next to a YouTube page with a picture of another owl and the words “The owls are gathering” and “find out soon why.”

The countdown clock on the page tells how many days, hours and minutes are remaining before the mystery unfolds.

Will there be another installment for the “Harry Potter” book series? It’s been 5 years since the last book, “Deathly Hallows,” has been published and fans can’t get enough.

Or perhaps it’s a spin-off.

We’ll find out in a week…
