The country’s brightest stars led by Piolo Pascual are set to save the environment at the “DZMM Takbo Para Sa Kalikasan Year 11” on Sunday (Feb 28) at the Quirino Grandstand.

Pascual will race to the finish line with “Rubi” leading man Jake Cuenca, “Tanging Yaman” star Enchong Dee, “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo” beauty Maricar Reyes, DZMM anchors, and thousands of athletes, students, health enthusiasts, and environmentalists.

Vice President Noli De Castro is also expected to arrive to show his support for the fun run, which will benefit the rehabilitation of the Pasig River through ABS-CBN Foundation’s Bantay Kalikasan.

Aside from the earliest finishers in the 3K, 5K, and 10K categories, the youngest and oldest runners and the biggest government, non-government organization, and student contingents will be awarded in the race.

Angelica Panganiban is Rubi – the type who will do whatever it takes in order to be rich and famous. For that to happen, she befriends an unsuspecting classmate who comes from a well-off family and uses that connection to achieve her evil schemes.

Diether Ocampo is Hector – He was supposed to take over his family’s thriving luxury liner business, but he defies his mother’s wishes by pursuing a career in medicine instead. He agrees to his mom’s choice of a bride.

Jake Cuenca is Alejandro – His dream of becoming a doctor becomes a reality with the help of a scholarship grant from the foundation that Hector’s family has built. But since he’s a close friend of Hector, Rubi mistakenly concludes that he’s also filthy rich which is why she sets her eyes on him first.

Shaina Magdayao is Maribel – She is beautiful but very insecure due to her physical disability. But the fact that her adoptive parents have kept her pampered all her life has somehow compensated for her inferiority complex. She begins to open up to other people when she meets Rubi who defends her from the people who try to bring her down.

As part of ABS-CBN’s offering for the celebration of 60 Years of Pinoy Soap Opera, Rubi will premiere tonight under the Primetime Bida block.

We learned from the past that billboards can take lives. They pose real danger to people during typhoons. And in normal days, these gigantic ads across EDSA can also pose danger because of its graphic contents.

The latest billboard on the block is the one with young actor Jake Cuenca wearing only a floral-colored briefs. The Bench ad dubbed as “new second skin” was perceived by many as provocative and eye-catching among those driving across sky way and EDSA overpass at the Magallanes area. It was said to be extremely dangerous specially if the ones driving are women, gays or men who get a “little” attracted with other naked men.

One complaint from a certain Atty. Romulo Macalintal was published from a popular spreadsheet which says:

“The advertisement is an intentional and blatant disrespect for family values.” What he meant is that the billboard was too vulgar, lewd, unwholesome and inappropriate for children to look at.

The Advertising Standards Council (ASC), on the other hand, said that the said billboard did not violate any rules whatsoever. It cannot be considered pornographic as there was no genital exposure and the photograph was done in good taste.

Bench has released billboards in the past featuring a celebrity wearing only an underwear. We’ve seen Richard Gomez, Jomari Yllana, Rafael Rosell and Dingdong Dantes.

Unfortunately for Jake Cuenca, his billboard raised various criticisms from some politicians.

Jake expressed his reaction if ever authorities are compelled to remove his billboard:

“…masakit. Kung hindi nila gusto, it’s their opinion, pero sa akin, at the end of the day makita ko lang yun na nakatayo eh I’m happy and I have no regrets in doing the pictorial whatsoever.”

Angel Locsin and Jake Cuenca team up for the first time in the upcoming Valentine episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya. But this is not the first time that they will work together. Angel and Jake were stars of the GMA fantaserye “Majika” before when they were still kapuso.

The MMK episode with Jake is her third appearance in the longest-running drama anthology. Her previous MMK role for the “Pilat” episode had won her the Best Single Performance by an Actress award in the PMPC Star Awards for Television – her very first acting award.

This episode will be a challenging role for Angel as she will be playing an accidental mistress.

Angel explained her role via ABS-CBN, “It’s different talaga. Medyo strong kasi yung character niya and eto yung character na kadalasan hindi naiintindihan. Kumbaga bago tayo manghusga ng tao, tignan muna natin kung ano ba talaga yung sitwasyon. Kasi ang role ko dito isa akong mistress, tapos naniniwala kasi ako sa pamilya, sa kasal, kaya isa-sacrifice ko yung sarili kong kaligayahan para ‘di ako makasira ng pamilya.”

It’s been a while since the last TV reunion of Roxanne and Jake. Roxanne revealed that she is looking forward to work with her ex-boyfriend again. “Excited naman ako to work with Jake again. Coco Martin, dubbed as the indie prince, is currently promoting his Cannes’-nominated film “Kinatay” in selected theaters. He is slated to star in another indie movie “Tinawag.”

Jake Cuenca is slated to star in the second installment of Agimat: Mga Ang Alamat ni Ramon Revilla entitled Elias Paniki. He is also one of the cast of the upcoming Marian Rivera movie Nieves.
