ABS-CBN trashed competition once again in the nationwide ratings game as it hit an audience share of 44 percent, or 13 points higher than GMA 7’s 31 percent.

Kapamilya’s lead in Mega Manila average audience share increased to 36 percent against GMA 7’s 34 percent. Year-on-year, ABS-CBN’s audience share in Mega Manila grew by .8 points from 35.2 percent in June 2009, while GMA’s audience share lost 7 points from 40 percent in June 2009
Metro Manila continues to become an ABS-CBN bailwick with the network’s audience share of 38 percent, or six points higher than GMA 7’s 32 percent.

ABS-CBN bagged all ten slots in the combined weekday and weekend Top 10 most watched programs for the month of June with the hit primetime series “Agua Bendita” still taking the lead with an average rating of 40.3%.

“Pilipinas Got Talent,” which witnessed the victory of its first ever grand winner Jovit Baldivino during the grand finals held recently at the Araneta Coliseum, secured the second spot for its Sunday airing with 37.2% and the third spot for its Saturday airing with 36.7%.

ABS-CBN’s flasgship news program “TV Patrol World” remains as the most watched primetime newscast in the country with 32.9 percent versus its rival “24 Oras” which only landed in the 22nd slot with 21.3 percent.

The much-awaited “Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Clash 2010: Unite at the Big Night” where Fil-Australian teenternational housemate James Reid emerged as the Teen Big Winner grabbed the 9th slot with 27.6%.

Newly launched fashion-serye “Magkaribal” topbilled by Gretchen Barretto and Bea Alonzo proved to be a strong contender in the ratings game as it ranked 11th in the overall programs for June with only less than a week of airing, hitting an average rating of 27.3%.

Other ABS-CBN programs in the top 10 include “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo” (34.5%), “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (33.2%), “You Got It (Sunday)” (30.1%), “You Got It (Saturday)” (29.1%), and “Rated K” (27.6%).

Kantar Media/TNS is a leading market research group in the world with a proven track record in audience research measurement systems in 32 countries. It started releasing its national television audience measurement (NUTAM) data on February 2009 with panels, composed of 1,370 representative households, covering urban Philippines and reporting on seven sectors namely NCR, Suburbs, North Luzon, Central Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court.

Afterwards, he entrusted his career to the late Douglas Quijano. After Quijano passed away last year, Tyrone’s career was deeply affected. Until director Jerry Sineneng referred him to Ms. Malou Santos of Star Cinema and Mr. Johnny Manahan of Star Magic, then eventually, the kapamilya network welcomed him with open arms.

Tyrone can now be seen on the hit primetime fantaserye “Momay” portraying the role of Gary.

The core net income of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation (ABS-CBN), the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, jumped by P481 million or 37% to P1.79 billion in 2009.

ABS-CBN delivered consolidated revenues of P24.85 billion from advertising and consumer sales, posting an increase of P2.54 billion or 11% year-on-year, inclusive of full-year revenue contribution from Sky Cable totalling P3.72 billion. Sky Cable contributed P3.58 billion to consumer sales and P138 million to airtime revenues.

The Company’s fast-growing consumer sales businesses continued to raise their overall share of revenues, reaching 42% of consolidated revenues in 2009 from double-digit growth in the subscription businesses of ABS-CBN Global and in the contribution of Sky Cable.

Consumer sales in 2009 rose by P1.59 billion to P10.39 billion, an 18% rise over 2008 consumer sales of P8.80 billion. ABS-CBN Global’s contribution share to total consumer sales amounted to 51%, while Sky Cable’s contribution share increased to 34% with its subscription and service revenues contribution of P3.58 billion, which is P1.0 billion more than its three-quarter revenue contribution in 2008.

Despite a weak first quarter and a six-month deferral of airtime rate increases to August 2009, consolidated advertising revenues grew by P952 million or 7% year-on-year to P14.46 billion, with 92% coming from Channel 2, Manila Radio and the Regional Network Group.

Total expenses grew by P2.52 billion or 13% year-on-year to P22.40 billion, driven mostly by higher costs of sales and services and general and administrative expenses (GAEX), with an additional quarter of expenses from Sky Cable. Total production costs in 2009 rose by only 2% or P133 million, to P6.29 billion.

A tight control over operating expenses and prudent financial management resulted in core net income reaching P1.79 billion in 2009, 37% or P481 million higher than the P1.31 billion posted in 2008.

Net income attributable to shareholders for 2009 went up by 23% year-on-year or P318.93 million, to P1.70 billion, from 2008’s net income attributable to shareholders of P1.38 billion, after an P85.25 million accounting adjustment required under Philippine Financial Reporting Standard 3.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) reached P6.51 billion, yielding an EBITDA margin of 26% for 2009, and is 7% or P405 million better than 2008 EBITDA of P6.11 billion. Capital expenditures and film and program rights acquisitions in 2009 amounted to P2.95 billion, just P33 million or 1% higher from the previous year.

Even amidst weak economic conditions and depressed consumer spending in major economies worldwide, ABS-CBN Global’s overall viewer count increased by 13% to an estimated 2.16 million worldwide by year-end. Driven by strong double-digit subscriber growth in the United States, the Middle East, Australia, Canada and the Asia-Pacific, ABS-CBN Global’s subscription and other service revenues grew 8% year-on-year in US dollar terms and by 16% growth in peso terms.

Sky Cable’s digitalization of its cable network and roll-out of Digiboxes to 50% of its Metro Manila subscribers in 2009, enabled it to address cable piracy, offer the country’s first pre-paid cable TV packages, as well as introduce Skycable Select, a low-priced post-paid cable TV package that allows subscribers to add more channels to their basic subscription an a la carte basis.

Sky Cable also expanded its product portfolio with the launch of Sky Broadband, the fastest residential broadband service with speeds of up to 12 Mbps, and Sky Voice, the most affordable international voice-calling service, and pioneered the offering of HD-quality cable TV content in the Philippines with Sky Cable HD in 2009.

ABS-CBN sustained its dominance in local television in 2009 with its heart-warming and inspiring dramas, light and amusing comedy shows, and engaging reality programs in the afternoons and on primetime, such as the Precious Hearts Romances drama mini-series, Kambal sa Uma, May Bukas Pa, Tayong Dalawa, Katorse, Showbiz News Ngayon, Banana Split and Pinoy Big Brother Double Up, along with the long-running daily noontime show Wowowee and Sunday musical variety program ASAP. This high-quality entertainment fare was complemented by relevant weekday and weekend news and current affairs programs — Umagang Kay Ganda, TV Patrol World, Bandila, Matanglawin and Rated K!, among others — highlighted with special coverages and documentaries of issues and events of national importance.

With such compelling and engaging content, the ABS-CBN programs held the first nine of the Top 10 and fourteen of the Top 20 programs in 2009. ABS-CBN solidified its national leadership position based on TNS National Philippines Television Audience Measurement, with audience shares for the period February to December 2009 averaging 45% for total day (6am to 12mn), leading its nearest competitor with a comfortable double-digit margin.

True to his title Asian Pop Idol, Christian Bautista recently wowed top-level executives from Southeast Asia’s leading broadcasting companies after he sung the song “Please be Careful with my Heart” in Bahasa (Indonesian language) together with singer Karylle.

Their remarkable duet capped the appreciation dinner sponsored by ABS-CBN, led by chairman and CEO Eugenio Lopez III and president and COO Charo Santos-Concio, for visiting members of the SMART Alliance, an organization of Southeast Asian networks intended to collaborate on content, sales and marketing, and technology.

Other than Christian, international sensation Billy Crawford and real-life girlfriend Nikki Gil also graced the night and rendered a duet singing the classic hit “You’ve Got a Friend.” The two also served as hosts for the event.

Meanwhile, Aiza Seguerra performed her cover of the song “I Cant Make You Love Me” from her first international album “Open Arms,” which ranked number one in Singapore.

Members of the SMART Alliance convened in Manila recently to formally sign an Equipment and Facilities Rental Agreement that aims to share facilities among member companies to reduce operational and equipment costs; and its website agreement that aims to create an online portal that will provide information on the alliance to its different stakeholders.

To showcase Philippine advancement in the media industry, ABS-CBN also took delegates coming from BBTV (Thailand), International Media Corporation (Vietnam), Media Nusantara Citra (Indonesia), Media Prima (Malaysia), and MediaCorp (Singapore) to the studio to watch its top-rating noontime variety show “Wowowee” and toured them around its post-production facilities where delegates marveled at the state-of-the-art technology the Kapamilya Network is currently using.

Though it is not part of their original agenda, the group also signed an agreement formalizing the joint sales package launched by the group in line with their objective of driving regional revenue through a common led strategy and new target markets to enable the alliance to gain sustainable competitive advantage.

“These are just early steps to realize the tremendous potentials from the synergy brought about by the Smart Alliance. We are looking forward to developing more projects which will be beneficial among our members and increase the competitiveness of Asian media,” said Paolo Pineda, Head of ABS-CBN Business Development and member of the Smart Alliance Secretariat.

SMART alliance turned a year old this month. The alliance aims to create and deliver commercial benefits to its members, and deliver marketing and promotional solutions on a regional platform to its customers.

Welcome the season of summer with more than 150 Kapamilya stars as ABS-CBN officially launches its highly anticipated summer station ID (SID) dubbed as “Summer ang Simula” this Sunday (Mar 21) on “ASAP XV.”

According to ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management (CCM) Head Robert Labayen, the concept is anchored on the idea of summer as the perfect time to enjoy and at the same time TO gear up for change.

Inspired by the colors and images of the art technique called a collage, all of their campaigns and summer activities form different images which later on become part of one final canvass that paints a better world for the Filipino.

The song “Summer Ang Simula” features “Pinoy Dream Academy” Grand Star Dreamer Yeng Constatino and Kean of Callalily. It is an original song written and composed by ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management team: words by Edsel Misenas and music by Lloyd Corpuz, Odon Aspiras and Jordan Constantino, produced by Jonathan Manalo for Star Records.

The 2010 Summer SID was created by ABS-CBN CCM headed by Robert Labayen, Johnny de los Santos, Ira Zabat, Patrick De Leon with the SID team, Edsel Misenas, Dang Baldonado, Danie Sedilla-Cruz, Joan Mole, Christina Barbin and Sheryl Ramos. It is directed by Paolo Ramos. Other members are Peewee Gonzales, Assistant Director; Jimmy Porca, Project Coordinator; Odyssey Flores, Cinematographer; Oliver Paler, Post-Production Head; Sammy Esquillon and Angel Diesta, Production Designers; Gelo Dayao, Editor; Mary Ann Rejano, Caster; Marvin Bragas, Location Manager.

It’s 2010 and to start it with a bang, ABS-CBN Regional Network Group parties hard in the Queen City of the South and the country’s oldest city – Cebu during one of the most anticipated events of the year, the Sinulog Festival.

An annual event in the seat of Christianity in the Philippines, the Sinulog festival honors the patron saint of Cebu City with a dance ritual. Known for its vibrant street parade with hundreds of participants in bright costumes and lively dancing, this year’s Sinulog Festival will become more colorful with a Kapamilya style celebration.

Get a chance to party with Banana Split funny men John Prats, Zanjoe Marudo and Jason Gainza and ‘And I Love You Goodbye’ star Angelica Panganiban with their special production numbers and a special meet and greet with their fans. There will also be surprise games and treats so be sure to be at the Ayala Parking, Cebu City on January 16, 4pm for a dose of the Kapamilya Karavan in Cebu.

On the 17th, watch out for the Kapamilya float with ex-PBB housemates Princess, Tom and Rica.

This means Pacman’s upcoming bout with British boxing superstar Ricky Hatton on May 2, 2009 will be televised in the Philippines via ABS-CBN Channel 2 and overseas via the Filipino Channel (TFC).

Pacman clarifies that coming back to ABS-CBN, the network that aired his previous bouts including the one against Mexican Oscar Larios in July 2006, was his own decision.

“Pagkatapos kong pagisipang mabuti, nilapitan ko ang ABS-CBN at nagpagpasyahan ko pong makipag partner muli sa kanila. Sarili ko itong desisyon. Sa ABS-CBN mapapanood n’yo ang laban ko kay Ricky Hatton at iba ko pang laban,” he said.

Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN Head of Corporate Communications, expressed his happiness with the return of Pacman to ABS-CBN and vowed to support him for the honor of the country.

“…Welcome home, Kapamilya!,” he said.

Kris Aquino declared with excitement on SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon Wednesday night that Manny’s return to ABS-CBN is now confirmed. Jinky, Manny’s wife, told Kris that her husband has been longing to return to the kapamilya network. She added that it’s all Manny who find ways to make the transfer possible.
