In terms of moral support, Sarah Geronimo assessed that the Concert King has been a good influence to the new batch of singers. “He’s been very supportive, si Sir Martin noon pa. Noon pa man sa ASAP. Nakakagulat dahil ang isang Martin Nievera ay napakasupportive sa young, sa generation namin, generation of singers. Nararamdaman din namin sa ASAP at yun ang pagkakakilala ko kay Sir Martin.”

Filipinos’ talent in singing will be put to the ultimate test in this singing competition with a twist hosted by two of the most respected artists in the industry— Concert King Martin Nievera and Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano.

This is the first time the two will have their own program together and their wacky antics as well as perfect on-screen chemistry will definitely add up to the twist the show will be offering.

“I’ve never been a game show host. This is my first time, but I have Martin. I know we’re both going to learn from each other, we’re ready for the challenges,” said Gary in an interview with ABS-CBN.com.

“ABS-CBN has created a lot of game shows but the core element in Twist and Shout is not to try to be a game show and us hosts not to be like Edu Manzano, Cesar Montano, or Kris Aquino. We will just be Martin and Gary,” added Martin.

“Twist and Shout” will feature celebrities singing the country’s top hits while facing distractions such as running on a treadmill, becoming a human roulette, or being dipped in ice-cold water.

Every episode, two celebrity teams with three players will undergo three rounds with different distractions. Each one will take on one round and his only goal is to continue singing and endure the disruption for two whole minutes.

Judges Aiza Seguerra and Jimmy Bondoc alongside a weekly celebrity guest, will be giving them points and the team with the highest number of points will proceed to the final round called the Turn Table.

The winning team must again sing for two minutes while on top of the rotating circular platform to be able to win the jackpot prize. The timer will not stop until a member of the team is still standing and the moment the clock hits two minutes, three lucky audience from their side of the studio will divide amongst themselves P200,000.

Twist and Shout is like a singing contest with a Japanese game show twist.

During their contract signing for the said tv program, Martin Nievera described the concept of Twist and Shout as “a not-so stressful singing contest. It’s unique, different. Importante pa rin na nasa tono ka but there are other elements that will making singing very hard. Singing while in a pool of ice, or singing while being attacked by dogs. You have to sing two minutes straight na hindi nadi-distract. The contestants can win up to two million I think. ‘Yung audience may prize rin sila.’”

Gary V. promoted their new show on ASAP XV earlier today.

“Twist and Shout is a singing contest with a twist that will make you shout,” He said. “Walang makakapigil talaga sa kumakantang pinoy. Sing if you can, kumbaga, kanta ka lang ng kanta hanggang kaya mo,” he added.

The National Historial Institute is going gaga over Martin Nievera‘s “pop” version of Lupang Hinirang during the Pacquiao-Hatton match last Sunday. In this line, we have three thought-provoking questions for you.

The traditionalists say the song is “untouchable.” The liberals say it was very artistic and was not in any way disrespectful of our national dignity. How about you, did you like it? Section 37 of Chapter 2 of the law says the national anthem should be played or sung in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of its composer Julian Felipe. Violators upon conviction will be fined P5,000 to P20,000 and may be imprisoned for no more than a year.

“Mali ang pagkanta niya…dapat sinundan niya ang nakalagay sa batas,” Atienza said in a radio interview criticizing Martin Nievera’s version that the crooner sang at the Pacquiao-Hatton bout as against the law.

He even stressed that violators of this law will have to pay a fine between P5,000 and P20,000 or spend up to a year in prison. He asked Martin to ask for public apology for “tweaking” the Philippine National Anthem.

To add insult to the injury, the logo of the National Historical Institute was flashed right after Martin Nievera hit the final note.

On the other hand, Martin Nievera issued a statement on 24 Oras saying he will not apologize.

“My boss, Manny Pacquiao told me, ‘basta wag yung mabagal. Gusto ko ‘yong parang march ang feel,’” Martin said.

Pacquiao personally chose Martin to sing the national anthem for the boxer’s highly-anticipated bout with the British pugilist. Martin became the first male artist to sing the Philippine National Anthem in all of Pacman’s bouts after more than 10 female artists.

It’s interesting to note that in the past, the National Historial Institute (NHI) also reprimanded Charice, Jennifer Bautista and Christian Bautista for deviating from the song’s original form.

All three singers have apologized, saying it was not their intention that some notes or lines in the song were changed or omitted.

NHI Claims Martin Nievera’s Version of ‘Lupang Hinirang’ is Against the Law originally appeared on Starmometer on May 5, 2009.

The first four lines started out slow and a dramatic instrumental follows. The tempo became upbeat at the beginning of the fifth line until it reaches the climax of the song which is the last line “Ang Mamatay ng Dahil Sa Iyo”. Martin hits a very high note at the end and maintained his vibrato to the delight of the proud Filipinos at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The new version that Martin sang was approved by the Historic Institute of the Philippines.
