The red-and-black jacket that Michael Jackson wore in the music video of his 80s hit “Thriller” is being auctioned at the end of this month for the benefit of his tigers named Sabu and Thriller.

Some of the proceeds from the auction will go to the Shambala Preserve, a Southern California wildlife sanctuary via “The Roar Foundation.”

Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush designed the said jacket bearing the autograph of the late music icon. It is expected to fetch a minimum of $200,000 to less than $1 million.

The song entitled “Hold My Hand” was unveiled on www.michaeljackson.com. It’s a duet with Akon, a song they recorded in 2007. A handwritten note from Michael belonging to his Estate indicated his desire that “Hold My Hand” be the first single on his next project. However, in its unfinished state, the song leaked out in 2008. Akon recently completed the new and final production of “Hold My Hand.”

Akon comments, “The world was not ready to hear ‘Hold My Hand’ when it leaked a couple years ago. We were devastated about it. But its time has definitely come; now in its final state, it has become an incredible, beautiful, anthemic song. I’m so proud to have had the chance to work with Michael, one of my all time idols.”

On December 14th, Epic Records in conjunction with the Estate of Michael Jackson, will release the much-anticipated new album MICHAEL. The album contains ten tracks, produced by an esteemed group of producers along with Michael Jackson. While primarily focused on songs that Michael worked on recently, there are also earlier compelling tracks.

MICHAEL is the first release in nine years of new material by one of music’s most beloved icons whose artistry continues to touch new generations of fans. The album marks another release under the new agreement between the Estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music announced in March that continues the label’s 35-year relationship with Michael and his music. During that time, Michael sold hundreds of millions of records, had 13 #1 singles and released the pop culture phenomenon “Thriller,” which remains music’s all-time bestselling album with more than 100 million copies sold worldwide.

Travis Payne, Jackson’s long-time choreographer, helmed the YouTube sensation Cebu Dancing Inmates to the tune of “This is It!” as a tribute to the late King of pop.

Choreographer Travis Payne, along with his back-up dancers Daniel Celebre and Dres Reid, came to the Philippines to choreograph and danced with the Cebu Dancing Inmates to the tune of Michael Jackson’s This Is It!

The number was called “The Drill,” and it was the last choreography Payne and Jackson collaborated on before the King of Pop died in June 2009.

The video was uploaded on YouTube last January 22 and as of today, it had been viewed 602,596 times.

The video of the Cebu Dancing Inmates with Payne and co. will be a special feature in the Blu-Ray and DVD copies of Michael Jackson’s “This Is It.”

Or maybe America immersed itself in Jon and Kate’s troubles to make their own private lives seem not so bad?

5. Rihanna getting beaten up by Chris Brown. When a pop star gets beaten up by another pop star, this is always major celebrity news. Especially when the victim is stupid enough to go back to the abuser, and especially when she snootily tells concerned family and fans to bug off.

No. 6 – Whitney Houston’s comeback. This created some high waves for a while, and though not the strongest celebrity news story of 2009, it had no competition as far as story topic, either. How many washed up, drug addicted, once-terrific-voiced singers who stayed in an abusive marriage for many years, decide to make a comeback, and then bomb at Central Park with a damaged-sounding voice and a stupid-sounding song?

No. 7 – Death of John Travolta’s son, Jett, in the Bahamas. This had a few interesting angles to it because Travolta is a Scientologist, and speculation grew that his religion was responsible for the boy’s death. Another angle that this took: Jett apparently had autism, though John Travolta denied this, despite videos and photos that depict a boy who had a handicap.

No. 8 – David Letterman’s joke about Sarah Palin’s daughter. This carried a lot of weight in the celebrity news world for weeks, because Sarah Palin would not drop it and get on with her drama queen life. David Letterman finally relented and apologized, but it’s obvious he did so to avoid losing more fans. If Sarah Palin actually thought that Letterman’s apology was sincere and from the heart, she’s dumber than her hairdo looks. What’s the point of an apology if you must nag, nag, nag, nag and demand, demand, demand and demand it via media outlets? Letterman’s apology was as fake as Palin’s never-ending smile during her GOP speech.

No. 9 – Michael Phelps smoking pot. What’s a superhuman athlete boy-next-door wholesome young man doing smoking a bong? Wasn’t winning eight gold medals in one Olympics, and earning millions of dollars in endorsements, enough to keep Michael Phelps too high on happiness to even think of ingesting an illegal brain-cell-damaging drug? Unless he was smoking pot to numb pain from his swimming workouts? You know, that “medical marijuana” thing? Michael Phelps tarnished his image after his bong photo was leaked. And if you think I’m being too critical, don’t forget that Phelps HIMSELF apologized for smoking the bong!

No. 10 – Michael Jackson’s death. This celebrity news was the absolute king of 2009′s top celebrity stories. In fact, this was one of the top celebrity stories of all time, with dozens of layers and dimensions, and each time one unfolds, more layers appear. It was the biggest day on the network of Akami, which delivers 20% of the Internet’s traffic. The second biggest day was July 8 (US standard time) as Michael Jackson’s memorial service was conducted in Los Angeles.

Global web traffic was as high as 33% above normal during the event, with traffic reaching four million visitors per minute. The three biggest centres for all Jackson memorial-related information were Ustream (A video streaming service), Facebook and CNN (who tied up to provide video services along with real-time social networking) and Twitter.

According to AllThingsD, The Michael Jackson Memorial on Tuesday was the 3rd biggest web event on the internet next to President Barack Obama’s inauguration and the news of Michael Jackson’s death.
