Typhoon Gener – PAGASA Weather Update for July 30

Typhoon Gener was estimated at 340km East Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan, (18.8°N, 125.2°E) at 1:00a.m. today based on satellite and surface data, with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph and is moving North Northwest at 11 kph.

Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under Public Storm Warning Signals are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides Likewise, those living in coastal areas under Public Storm Warning Signal #2 are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 – 25 mm per hour (heavy – intense) within the 600 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.

Tropical Storm “Gener” is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao especially the western section.

Typhoon Butchoy – PAGASA Weather Update for June 18

Typhoon Butchoy has maintained its strength at 11:00 a.m. today, June 18 (Monday), as it continues to move northward at 22 kph, according to the latest report of Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA.

Tropical Storm “Butchoy” is estimated based on satellite and surface data at 460 km East of Basco, Batanes (20.2°N, 126.9°E) with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph.

As of this time, no public storm warning signals raised.

3-DAY WEATHER FORECAST

Monday evening: 670 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes or 120 km South of Okinawa, Japan

Tuesday morning: 920 km Northeast of Basco, Batanes or 170 km Northeast of Okinawa, Japan

Typhoon “Butchoy” is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains over Luzon especially over its western section, and over Western Visayas which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 15 – 25 mm per hour (heavy) within the 500 km diameter of the Typhoon.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas due to the big waves generated by the combined effects of Typhoon “Butchoy” and the Southwest Monsoon.

Typhoon Pedring – PAGASA Storm Update for September 27

Typhoon Pedring slightly weakened earlier today, September 27, as it crossed Northern Luzon. Pedring is estimated based on satellite and surface data at 1100 km East of Baguio City (16.5°N, 121.5°E ) with maximum sustained winds of 1120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph and is moving West Northwest at 19 kph as of 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Typhoon Pedring is moving west northwest at 19 kilometers and is expected to leave the country by Wednesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Tropical Storm Pedring Enters PHL

Tropical Storm “Pedring” entered the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The country would experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms as it’s expected to make landfall on Wednesday.

PAGASA Update: Tropical Storm ‘Mina’ Gains Strength

Tropical Depression Mina has sustained its strength and is moving slowly towards the North, according to the latest weather bulletin of Philippine Atmospherica Geophysical and Astronomical Administration or PAGASA.

Forecaster Elvie Enriquez said Tropical storm “Mina” (Nanmadol) lengthens its stay in Philippine territory because its interacting with a tropical cyclone just outside the country.

Bagyong Mina is also expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and will bring scattered to widespread rains over Southern Luzon and Visayas for today until tomorrow, Thursday.

PAGASA Says Neptune to be Seen in PHL on July 12

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said planet Neptune will be visible to stargazers in the Philippines this Tuesday since its discovery 165 years ago.

However, the bureau said that those who are interested to take a peek on the said planet on July 12 at around 1 a.m. in the morning will need binoculars or a telescope because it will not be visible to the naked eye.

“At 1:00 a.m. (of July 12), Neptune and Uranus will be glowing at magnitude +7.8 and +5.8. They will be located 53 and 31 degrees above the east-southeast horizon, and will lie among the stars of the constellation Aquarius, the Water Bearer and Pisces, the Fish, respectively,” acting administrator Nathaniel Servando said.

Neptune was discovered by German astronomer Johann Galle on September 23, 1846.

PAGASA Weather Forecast for June 24 (Friday) – Update On Tropical Storm Falcon

According to the latest bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), typhoon Falcon is heading in the North Northwest direction at 19 kph with maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph.

The weather bureau warns the public that typhoon Falcon together with the southwest monsoon is expected to cause heavy rain showers the whole Friday afternoon.

Public warning storm signal number one is still up in the islands of Calayan, Babuyan, and Batanes. These areas are alerted for possible flashfloods and landslides.

Philippines Airlines, Cebu Pacific, Air Philippines and Zest Air cancelled 53 domestic flights from Manila today.
