Rosalinda Climbs to No. 2 in Mega Manila Primetime TV Ratings

After a disappointing 26.3% rating on its pilot episode, GMA’s Rosalinda climbed from no. 6 last Monday to no. 3 last Tuesday and Wednesday and finally settled on no. 2 last Thursday when it first entered the 30% bracket.

Another good news for Rosalinda is that it was able to beat its rival show “Only You” which is topbilled by Angel Locsin.

Rosalinda’s Pilot Episode Disappoints

All high expectations for the newest GMA primetime series Rosalinda went down the drain when it became one of the lowest-rating pilot episodes of a GMA primetime series.

Rosalinda’s pilot episode registered a dismal 26.3% in Mega Manila, the 4th lowest GMA pilot of a primetime series in 5 years. Looking at the brighter side, the Carla Abellana starrer premiered better than All About Eve’s 26.1% last March 9, 2009, Atlantika’s 25.5% last October 3, 2006 and Adik Sa ‘Yo’s 25.4% last June 8, 2009 (Please take note that All My Life is not considered a primetime series).

To add insult to injury, Rosalinda was beaten by it’s rival shows Only You which garnered 27.5% and Tayong Dalawa which registered 31.7%. 24 Oras ruled the primetime race with 32.3% followed by Tayong Dalawa.

May Bukas Pa and Tayong Dalawa Conquer Mega Manila TV Ratings

For three consecutive nights in a row, ABS-CBN programs topped the primetime race in Mega Manila with Tayong Dalawa hitting the no. 1 spot last Tuesday and Thursday and May Bukas Pa did the same thing last Wednesday.

This is the very first time that ABS-CBN topped the primetime race in Mega Manila 3 NIGHTS IN A ROW! Tayong Dalawa and May Bukas Pa already hit no. 1 in Mega Manila in the past but it’s just a one night thing.

Is this a sign that ABS-CBN will now fully dominate Mega Manila’s primetime viewing? Can Rosalinda and Narda save GMA from further losing Mega Manila? We will find out.

Carla Abellana and Marian Rivera to Star in ‘The Other Man’

Carla Abellana’s first movie is a starring role together with Marian Rivera.

23-year-old Carla Abellana is being groomed by GMA-7 as their next big star via the Philippine remake of the hit Mexican telenovela “Rosalinda.” This is Carla’s very first tv role in a primetime series, and a starring role at that.

The first adapted Mexican telenovela on Philippine television was MariMar and it launched Marian Rivera to super stardom. Marian became the hottest female property of the kapuso network as she had a back-to-back tv series that topped the primetime tv ratings nationwide.

Marian and Carla have so much in common. While the latter is yet to prove her worth, people are expecting that she will shine bright as her mother studio has invested so much for her.

Mother Lily Monteverde, for one, has an eye for potential superstars. She acquired multi-movie deal before with Angel Locsin. And after that, it’s Marian Rivera. Now, the Regal Films matriarch offered a movie deal with Carla Abellana and her co-star is no other than Marian Rivera.

Carla and Marian is starring in the film “The Other Man” which is set to release later this year.

SOP Welcomes Back Katrina Halili

After the devastating sex scandal involving her and Hayden Kho, Katrina Halili finally returns to work on GMA-7.

Although the controversy is still being deliberated in the court with Katrina suing Dr. Hayden Kho, Dra. Vicki Belo, Hayden’s mom and all other involved in the alleged leak of her infamous sex video, she is coming back to work on television setting aside the controversies for the meantime.

GMA gave her the coveted role of “Fedra” in the upcoming Philippine remake of the hit Mexican telenovela Rosalinda. Katrina will play nemesis to the lead star Carla Abellana.

Aside from the primetime series, Katrina will also grace the cover of Cosmopolitan Philippines July 2009 issue.

To herald Katrina’s return to work, GMA noontime show SOP prepared a grand welcome number for the sexy actress.

Cristine Reyes to Return to GMA 7?

Cristine Reyes reportedly walked-out during the shooting of Banana Split when her friend Katrina Halili are being spoofed pertaining to the Hayden-Katrina Sex Video scandal. Does it mean that the rumors of Cristine coming back to GMA are true?

Cristine aired her side regarding the matter and she confirmed that she left the scene when the “Katrina-Hayden” segment is being shot. Cristine said Katrina Halili is her friend and the issue is very delicate to make fun of.

Cristine also clarified that she did not walked-out during the shooting. She just left the scene because she could not bear seeing her friend being spoofed. She added that Katrina is going through a lot right now and she lost a number of jobs already. Getting spoofed on national television regarding her sex video scandal is not a funny joke. She also admitted that she had a feud with one of the cast of Banana Split but she refused to namedrop who it is.

Although this has nothing to do with her possible transfer on the kapuso network, Cristine confirmed that her camp are under negotiations with her former mother studio for a possible comeback.

According to reports, GMA has offered Cristine the role of a contra bida in Rosalinda. The kapuso network also offered her another tv project but she said she’s more inclined to the do support to Carla Abellana in Rosalinda despite being a lead star already on ABS-CBN’s Eva Fonda.

Sultry actress Cristine Reyes gave no definite answer to reports saying that she is moving again to another network.

She admitted, however, that that the decision on whether or not she will stay as a Kapamilya star is still under negotiations at the moment. She also shared that other networks have offered to sign her on as their contract star.

“Actually po. kasi hindi ako nagsasalita ng tapos, dahil under negotiation po lahat. Ayaw ko munang magsabi kung ano ang mangyayari. So ngayon, tignan po natin ang mangyayari. Kung saan mas maganda at saan mas masaya doon ako,” Reyes told ABS-CBN News.

The actress also denied allegations that she is leaving ABS-CBN because she is not satisfied with the projects the network has given her.

“Sobrang thankful po ako at sobrang nagpapapasalamat sa sobrang laking tiwala ng ABS-CBN. At sobrang happy ako sa tinakbo ng career ko sa ABS-CBN. At naniniwala naman talaga ako na sila ang gumawa ng pangalan sa akin at nagpasikat, sa lahat na ng bagay,” she stressed.

She also downplayed speculations that she wanted to leave ABS-CBN because of a rift she had with “Goin’ Bananas” girls Angelica Panganiban and Pokwang.

It will be recalled that Reyes signed a contract with ABS-CBN March of last year after her previous network employer, GMA-7, announced that she has an attitude and behavior problem.

Dingdong Dantes is ‘Fernando Jose’ in Rosalinda?

After Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang, Dingdong Dantes is eyeing for the role of Fernando Jose in the upcoming Philippine television remake of Rosalinda.

“Tadyang” is ending this week. And as reported earlier, it will be the last television project for the Dingdong Dantes-Marian Rivera love team…for now. They’ve been together in Marimar, Dyesebel and lastly in Tadyang, it’s now time for them to go separate ways for the meantime with a new on-screen partner para maiba naman.

Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang is ending this week. Marian Rivera’s next tv project is Darna as confirmed by GMA EVP for Entertainment Wilma Galvante last Friday. So what’s in store for Dingdong?

According to reports, the upcoming daytime soap “Ngayon at Kailanman” is being assigned by the network to Dingdong but he declined. He is eyeing for the role of Fernando Jose for the Philippine television remake of Rosalinda. The said adaptation will be the launching pad of newcomer Carla Abellana to stardom. Dingdong intends to talk to the GMA program manager before the story conference first week of May.

It’s interesting to note that “Ngayon at Kailanman” is the same project given to Heart Evangelista and JC de Vera which both turned down because they are being downgraded from primetime to the afternoon timeslot. It is also the reason of the on-going feud between Annabelle Rama and Wilma Galvante.

Carla Abellana is the Pinay ‘Rosalinda’

GMA will launch their next big star–Carla Abellana–in the Philippine remake of the hit Mexican telenovela Rosalinda.

Aside from Rosalinda, Carla also auditioned for the role of Richard Gutierrez’s leading lady in Zorro. The GMA executives saw a big potential in her that’s why they picked her for the title role of Rosalinda.

Ms. Wilma V. Galvante, Senior Vice President for Entertainment, said, “Kasi si Carla, ang ganda ng face niya. We saw the potential in her, we saw the opportunity of building a good actress in her.”

Carla Abellana expressed her excitement for her first lead role during the contract signing:

“It’s such a big project—right away Rosalinda ‘yung binigay. So unang-una, I was surprised. And then I got excited, tapos dumating ‘yung pressure tsaka ‘yung kaba—which is just natural, ‘di ba?”

She doesn’t want to disappoint the people who believed in her that’s why she’s preparing for the role:

“Workshops, singing lessons, dancing lessons—whatever it has to take to prepare for that role; I’ll go to the gym, I’ll do whatever to prepare for that role.”

Wilma Galvante assured Carla that she will have an all-star cast that will support her and this includes her leading man “Fernando Jose.”

So who will play as Carla’s handsome love interest? The GMA executives haven’t decided yet.
