The much-awaited pilot episode of this Sinenovela airs this Monday, May 24 after Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak on GMA Network.

Sine Novela presents Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak, under the direction of award-winning director Maryo J. delos Reyes, features an enviable cast of dramatic artists led by critically acclaimed drama actor Dennis Trillo and drama princess Jennlyn Mercado.

Both Kapuso artists have already starred in their respective top-rating Sine Novela installments.

Dennis topbilled the Sine Novela offerings Magdusa Ka, which was nominated in last year’s International Emmy Awards, and Kung Mahawi Man Ang Ulap while Jennylyn starred in Paano Ba Ang Mangarap.

Sine Novela presents Gumapang Ka sa Lusak also topbills seasoned artists like Sandy Andolong, Al Tantay, Lotlot de Leon, Julio Diaz, Glydel Mercado, Ronnie Lazaro, Luz Valdez, Michael Sandico and Patricia Ysmael together with Kapuso homegrown stars Ryza Cenon, Mart Escudero, Vaness del Moral, Prince Stefan, and Shaun Rodriguez.

The film Gumapang Ka sa Lusak was one of the most critically-acclaimed masterpieces in the ‘90s that reaped numerous awards including best director, best screenplay and best picture in various film organizations such as Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) and Gawad Urian. The movie was directed by the multi-awarded filmmaker Lino Brocka and created by Ricky Lee. More so, the film featured a powerhouse cast led by Dina Bonnevie, Christopher de Leon, Charo Santos and Eddie Garcia.

Today, the film-turned-afternoon series will keep the viewers glued on television with its gripping drama about ambition, money and power. Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak revolves around the lives of engaged sweethearts Rachel (Jennylyn Mercado), an aspiring young actress, and Levi (Dennis Trillo), a poor, happy-go-lucky guy.

In the town of San Felipe, Rachel’s beauty stands out. She is even the object of desire of all men including the town‘s chief, Mayor Edmundo Guatlo (Al Tantay). With a fervent desire to have her, Mayor Guatlo will use all his power to make Rachel his mistress. Rachel rejects all the gifts and favors offered by the mayor. However, she will fall into the wicked mayor’s trap after a series of misfortunes happen to her loved ones including her fiancé Levi, who gets imprisoned due to an illegal activity.

Although the mayor’s wife, Rowena (Sandy Andolong), is aware of her husband’s infidelity, she goes along with it as long as the affair doesn’t affect her comfortable and powerful position in the society.

Sine Novela Presents Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak (Crawl in Mire) is a remake of the political drama flick in the 90′s which starred Christopher de Leon, Dina Bonnevie, Eddie Garcia and Charo Santos and was directed by the late Lino Brocka. It is the 19th installment of Sine Novela and it will star Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado together with Angelu de Leon, Al Tantay and Christopher De Leon.

Also starring in the new Sine Novela are Sandy Andolong, Glydel Mercado, Lotlot de Leon, Julio Diaz, Michael Sandico, Ryza Cenon, Mart Escudero, Vaness del Moral, Prince Stefan, and introducing Shaun Rodriguez of Survivor Philippines: Palau.

Gumapang Ka sa Lusak is helmed by Maryo J. delos Reyes, the director of the two record-breaking Sine Novelas “Saan Darating ang Umaga?” and “Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?” It also has the production staff of Magdusa Ka, a show that earned acclaim from the International Emmys.

Gumapang Ka sa Lusak, dubbed as the best Sine Novela yet, premieres on February 8 under GMA-7′s Dramarama sa Hapon block, replacing Kaya Kong Abutin ang Langit.

Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado Star in ‘Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak’ originally appeared on Starmometer on February 5, 2010.

The classic film Tinik sa Dibdib originally starred Phillip Salvador, Dina Bonnevie and Nora Aunor.

The GMA remake of the film is topbilled by Sunshine Dizon while Philip Salvador‘s role will be played by Marvin Agustin. Included in the cast are Ara Mina, Michelle Madrigal, former PBB housemate Rico Barrera, Bembol Roco, Daria Ramirez, Maybelyn Dela Cruz, Joel Torre and Shirley Fuentes.

The GMA Sine Novela is directed by Gil Tejada Jr. and premieres on September 28, Monday, under the Dramarama sa Hapon block.

Kaya Kong Abutin ang Langit is a 1984 classic drama starring the Diamond Star Maricel Soriano. Iza Calzado will reprise the lead role about a woman who will do everything just to meet her dreams.

Also in the cast are Angelika dela Cruz, Wendell Ramos, Isabel Oli, Victor Aliwalas, Lani Mercado, Rainier Castillo, Pinky Amador, Ana Capri, Ryan Yllana and Bobby Andrews.

The said Sine Novela is being helmed by renowned film director Topel Lee (Ouija, Sundo).

The 17th offering of GMA’s Sine Novela premieres on Monday, September 28, under the Teledrama sa Hapon block.

Ngayon at Kailanman is originally a box-office romanctic drama movie in 1992 starring Sharon Cuneta, Richard Gomez, Cherrie Gil and directed by Joel Lamangan. It will be adapted by GMA Network for television as part of their “Dramarama sa Hapon” block.

JC De Vera will play the role of Edwin Torres, originally played by Richard Gomez while Heart Evangelista will portray Ayra Noche, Sharon Cuneta‘s character.

Ngayon at Kailanman is set to premiere this June.

“Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?” is the next Sine Novela to make daytime tv ratings more interesting. It’s the tv remake of the 1984 film of the same title starring Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion.

Kris and Aljur’s love team started in the teeny-bopper program Boys Nxt Door. It continued in the primetime series Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan, Dyesebel and Luna Mystika. They are also one of the featured pairs in the Regal movie “Loving You.”

The Sine Novela marks their first leading role together as a love team. Both Aljur and Kris now feel the pressure because this is their biggest break on the kapuso network. Furthermore, GMA’s Sine Novela’s are consistent top-raters not just in Mega Manila, but now nationwide as well.

“Una Kang Naging Akin” is a GMA TV remake of the classic 1991 drama movie from Viva Films of the same title. The original cast of the said movie were Sharon Cuneta, Gabby Concepcion and Dawn Zulueta. Angelika will play the role of Dawn in the soap opera.

The Sine Novela will be aired in the afternoon block and it will be directed by Joel Lamangan.

The role is not necessarily “kontra bida.” It’s more of “bida-kontrabida” and Angelika is happy with the way her career is going since her transfer to the Kapuso network.
