Amanda Colley Van Cooll outwitted, outplayed, and outlasted her fellow Finalists to bag the prestigious title of Pinoy Sole Survivor in the recently concluded edition of Survivor Philippines: Palau.

Amanda bested transsexual “Beauty Queen” Justine Ferrer and “Girl-Next-Door” Jef Gaitan based on the votes casted by the seven members of the jury.

During the merge, Amanda showed off her strength by winning individual immunity and reward challenges in succession.

To make it to the Final Three, Amanda beat Charles de Vera Fernandez in the tie-breaker face-off challenge during the tension-filled tribal council.

The truest match happened among the Final Three upon their return to the Philippines. Until this Friday’s Live Finale, it remained a big question as to whoever the jury favored.

Even program host Paolo Bediones was clueless of the results till the announcement of the last vote casted.

In the end, Amanda got four votes out of seven. She won the P3 million pot money, tax-free and the most prestigious title – Pinoy Sole Survivor.

Amanda plans to use her cash prize to build a house for her parents and to run a poultry farm in Mindoro.

We all know that the TNS Nationwide TV Ratings is ABS-CBN’s turf but there is one GMA primetime program that they can’t beat: Survivor Philippines Palau.

Survivor Philippines Palau is pitted against Florinda last Friday night and it got 19.9% while the horror series garnered 17.8%. With the entry of Stairway to Heaven last Monday night, Survivor Philippines Palau is now pitted against SNN and it still emerged victorious with 18.5%. The showbiz talk show only garnered 12.2% nationwide.

GMA’s new program, Stairway to Heaven, had its pilot episode last Monday night. According to TNS survey, the koreanovela remake received 25.8% and it was overpowered by its rival show, Tayong Dalawa, which got 39.9%. Stairway is second to Darna among GMA programs nationwide.

Darna registered an average rating of 43.5% on its pilot week. Darna helped other GMA programs to fly higher than before, specially Rosalinda. The Carla Abellana-starrer reached its peak rating of 33% last Monday. Adik Sa ‘Yo also experienced some boost.

Aside from Rosalinda, TV5′s Talentadong Pinoy also had its peak rating. Last Saturday, the Ryan Agoncillo-talent program registered a remarkable 30.3% to top the primetime race. This is the highest rating a TV5 program had ever got.

While Darna soars on primetime, it’s rival show May Bukas Pa falls. The former no. 1 teleserye in Mega Manila dropped to 6th place last Friday and it even dropped even lower at 9th place last Monday.

Survivor Philippines Palau, on the other hand, premiered last Monday night. It registered a strong 30.8% to finish fifth in the primetime race in Mega Manila. It wasn’t able to match the pilot episode of the 1st season which scored 31.8 percent last September 15, 2008.
