The grand finals of TV5’s “Talentadong Pinoy” topped the primetime race last Saturday beating erstwhile leader Pilipinas Got Talent.

On the other hand, Kapuso Movie Festival featuring the horror film “Sundo” and the replay of Diva trumped ASAP XV.

The only special program which failed to beat its competition was the telecast of Bb. Pilipinas 2010. The first part of the pageant did not beat ABS-CBN’s “Melason in Love.”

For last Monday’s battle, Panday Kids snatched the no. 1 slot from Agua Bendita which dropped to third place. Placing second was The Last Prince. Will this be a one-night thing or will it continue in the coming nights?

PEP reported earlier that GMA-7 is working hard to get Ryan Agoncillo as the new host of Survivor Philippines since its original host, Paolo Bediones transferred to TV5. The kapuso network is also offering Ryan the meaty role of “Andrew” in the local adaptation of the top-rating koreanovela “Endless Love: Autumn in My Heart” which is topbilled by Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera.

Aside from the two shows mentioned, GMA is also preparing a game show for Ryan and a weekly news and public affairs program. And if ever GMA decides to bring back Pinoy Idol, who will be the “better” host for the show than the first one to host the first version of the franchise and it’s still Ryan. All of these in exchange for Ryan leaving the top-rating talent show on TV5, Talentadong Pinoy, because he will be an exclusive kapuso talent if he accepts the offer.

It’s also interesting to note that it was GMA Network who discovered Ryan. The husband of Judy Ann Santos started his career on GMA’s morning show in the 90’s “Mornings @ GMA” and the youth-oriented program “Campus Video”. If ever he accepts the offer, it will be his comeback to the kapuso station.

The offer is very tempting but if Ryan will leave Talentadong Pinoy, lalabas naman siyang “walang utang na loob.” But here is our take: life is filled with choices and crossroads. In showbiz, the choice is always between career and the pinoy value of “utang na loob.” But guess what the brightest stars in the country have chosen in the past? Angel Locsin chose career than utang na loob. Kris Aquino, Boy Abunda, Anne Curtis, Toni Gozaga, Cristine Reyes, Lorna Tolentino, Paolo Bediones, Claudine Barretto, i can name more but i guess you get the point. Utang na loob will not bring food on the table so i guess more than 90% of those stars who transferred to another station have “career” on their minds.

This is crucial for Ryan. His decision might come from his principle as people perceive him as “ma-prinsipyo.” But then again, he could consider the fact that it was GMA who discovered him that’s why he’s in showbiz.

Actually we have a shortlist of 14 celebrities/shows that were surprise hits in the local entertainment industry this year but we picked those who impacted the world of showbiz (and politics) the most and trimmed them down to 9.

In no particular order, here’s our 9 SURPRISE HITS OF 2009:

ZAIJAN JARANILLA – This new child actor surprised everyone after his teleserye May Bukas Pa became the no. 1 tv program of 2009. Zaijan has a lot of promise that’s why he keeps on receiving awards left and right. Salamat kay Bro of course who gave him the talent and use it for God’s glory!

EUGENE DOMINGO – The ever-talented comedienne Eugene “Uge” Domingo was launched this year on her first starring role in a comedy film under newbie producers which include the ultimate heartthrob Piolo Pascual. Her film, Kimmy Dora, was a box-office hit giving Eugene the tag as “the next comedy queen.”

MARICAR REYES – This model-turned-actress became a household name after the Hayden Kho sex video scandal exploded earlier this year. The setback did not hinder Maricar and it even became a stepping stone for her career as she has now appeared on various teleserye on ABS-CBN. Her performances in Maalaala Mo Kaya, Lovers in Paris, Your Song and Precious Hearts Romances made the critics noticed her acting prowess.

TALENTADONG PINOY – Who would have thought that this talent competition on TV5 trumped its rivals from the two giant networks? It even started the “talent” show craze making both GMA and ABS-CBN come up with their own similar programs. Until now, Talentadong Pinoy is topping the Mega Manila TV ratings and their claim as the no. 1 talent show ng bayan is unquestionable. Kudos to its award-winning host Ryan Agoncillo!

VALERIE CONCEPCION – Who would have thought that one of the most irritating hosts on television could win the PMPC Best Female TV Host for two years in a row! Siguro kanya kanyang taste lang yan. Pardon my term but i find her hosting unpleasant to the ears and i kinda prefer Toni Gonzaga or Pia Guanio to win this award but hey, the judges saw something in her so there’s nothing we can do but to congratulate her. I think it’s her “mass appeal” that worked for her.

NOYNOY AQUINO – From out of nowhere, Noynoy is now the front-runner among the presidentiables come 2010 elections. Thanks to his ever-vigilant sister, Kris Aquino, who manages his candidacy to be the next President of the Republic. But of course, we should not forget that Noynoy’s biggest asset why the public loves him is his squeaky clean image as he hasn’t been linked to any graft and corruption rumors whatsoever.

CARLA ABELLANA – One of the biggest surprise of the year is this daughter of veteran actor Rey PJ Abellana. Catapulted to fame by landing the lead role in GMA’s Rosalinda, Carla has also landed several endorsement deals and she’s only starting in showbiz!

ERICH GONZALES – Erich was launched in her very first teleserye “Katorse.” The premiere of the series was delayed in months that’s why some of the cast became skeptical if the show will run or get shelved. Surprisingly, ABS-CBN put the show on primetime rather than daytime block and it’s a hit nationwide! This notable achievement makes Erich in the running for the kapamilya network’s drama princess!

CRISTINE REYES – Everyone was expecting Angel Locsin to top FHM’s Sexiest Women in the World for 2009 because the “Lobo” star has the biggest and most active fanbase that could dominate the poll. In the end, Angel ended up in third place, Marian Rivera in second and Cristine Reyes as the Sexiest Woman of 2009. We have no complaints as Cristine is very very sexy indeed!

Hosted by Ryan Agoncillo, TV5’s talent program succumbed to the pilot episode of Bitoy’s Showwwtime last week. But this time around, Talentadong Pinoy returns with a vengeance by garnering a whopping 23.8% beating all rivals such as MMK (18.9%), Bitoy’s Showwwtime (17.5%), 24 Oras Special Edition (19%) and The Singing Bee (14.4%).

Bitoy’s Showwwtime is the reformatted version of Michael V.’s previous Saturday primetime program “Bitoy’s Funniest Videos.” The new show will still showcase homemade videos but it will give emphasis to Pinoy “talents” around the globe. It registered a strong 22.3 percent against Talentadong Pinoy’s 21.7 percent last October 17.

The new season of Family Feud, on the other hand, had a very strong pilot episode last Monday. The kapuso game show placed third in the daytime race right after Daisy Siete which also premiered it’s new season entitled “My Shuper Sweet Lover.”

The Dingdong Dantes starrer was pitted to ABS-CBN’s Tayong Dalawa which garnered a slightly higher rating of 34.4 percent.

The best pilot episode of a GMA koreanovela remake is “Ako Si Kim Samsoon” which garnered 33.8% last June 30, 2008. Stairway to Heaven is just 0.3% behind.

The worst pilot episode of a GMA koreanovela remake is still “All About Eve” which registered 26.1% last March 9, 2009.

TV5’s Talentadong Pinoy, on the other hand, reclaimed the no. 1 position last Saturday night after it bowed to Kapuso Mo, Jessica Sojo the other week.

Show Me Da Manny dropped to no. 7 after topping the primetime race the other Sunday. Kap’s Amazing Stories reclaimed the no. 1 position.

Talentadong Pinoy, hosted by Ryan Agoncillo, was able to beat GMA’s Kapuso Mo, Jessica Sojo to top the the primetime race last Saturday. The reality talent show registered 26.2% while its rival shows Are You The Next Big Star (GMA) received 18% and The Singing Bee (ABS-CBN) got 16.5% according to AGB Nielsen Philippines.

Two other TV5 programs entered the Top 10. Midnight DJ took the 9th slot while Who Wants To Be A Millionaire captured the 10th slot.

Last June 20, Talentadong Pinoy registered a remarkable 21.1% against GMA’s Are You the Next Big Star which only garnered 15.6%. Its rival show from the kapamilya network is The Singing Bee and the said program only received 16.8 percent. The rating of Talentadong Pinoy placed it at no. 4 in the primetime race last Saturday with Kapuso Mo Jessica Sojo at no. 1 followed by Bitoy’s Funniest Videos and Imbestigador respectively.

Another TV5 program made it to last Saturday’s primetime Top 10 and it’s Midnight DJ. The horror program hosted by Oyi Boy Sotto registered 16.2% beating Maalaala Mo Kaya which only got 15.9 percent.

Another TV5 program penetrated the Top 10 on Sunday. This time it’s Max5 Movies and the featured movie last Sunday night was Ultraviolet. It registered 10.3 percent.

Two new shows debuted last Monday on the kapuso network. Kung Aagawin Mo Man ang Lahat Sa Akin premiered in the daytime race last Monday with 18.6% beating its rival Precious Hearts Romances Presents the Bud Brothers which only got 10.8 percent. The new GMA soap debuted at no. 3 in the daytime race.

Cruel Love, on the other hand, is the newest koreanovela of GMA which premiered in the primetime race last Monday night. It registered 19.2 percent beating its rival shows Pinoy Bingo Night and Showbiz News Ngayon.

Talentadong Pinoy is a reality talent search on TV5 inspired by America’s Got Talent. It is aired every Saturday afternoon with Ryan Agoncillo as host.

In an interesting turn of events, Talentadong Pinoy was able to enter the daytime race last Saturday by posting a rating of 14.1% which is good for 9th place.

Another TV5 program entered the daytime Top 10, thanks to Nicktoons’ Spongebob Squarepants. The popular cartoon program garnered 10.2% last Saturday which is good for 10th place. The next day, Spongebob climbed to no. 7 with 9.9% beating GMA’s Black Jack and Rockman Stream.

Ryan is set to leave the country next week for the taping of Fear Factor in South America. The franchise for the local edition of Fear Factor was bought by ABS-CBN from Endemol, the television company from Netherlands which is also responsible for other hit reality shows like Big Brother and Dream Academy. Among those who auditioned to be the host of “Pinoy” Fear Factor was Luis Manzano but the job was finally awarded to Ryan Agoncillo.

Ryan was also chosen by TV5, the new ABC 5, to host its upcoming reality show “Talentadong Pinoy.” The said program was franchised from the US reality talent show “30 Seconds to Fame” and not “America’s Got Talent.” In contrary to America’s Got Talent, although they are very similar, the live audience will act as the judges (instead of having 3 judges who have x buttons). During the performances, if the audience find an act undesirable to watch, the audience will use an electronic device to put in a vote for elimination. If enough people did so, the act was be cut short and the contestant will be eliminated immediately. If the contestant lasts for 30 seconds, he/she will advance through the next round.

So which network has the franchise for “America’s Got Talent” (to be called “Pinoys’ Got Talent) then?
