December 8, 2011 by · Comments Off

What awaits you by the time you reach 60? To some, they may live a cozy and comfortable life, but there are others who spend their remaining years on the streets abandoned by their own children.

Ted Failon hears the story of one of them this Saturday (Dec 10) in “Failon Ngayon” as he probes the struggles of being a senior citizen in Philippine society. He meets Nhila who worked so hard to give her son a good life, but was abandoned on the street together with her grandchild. His only son didn’t only leave her with his first born child but lives comfortably with his second wife now.

What should the government do to aid senior citizens in the country? How can agencies such as SSS, GSIS, and OSA help them in their plight?

“Failon Ngayon” currently celebrates its second year of giving the public analyses on current social issues and also providing timely solutions and prompt and proper action to featured concerns.

November 26, 2011 by · Comments Off

It’s Christmas season once again and mini-fair and amusement parks are just around the corner to bring joy and amazement to Filipino families. But how safe are these mini-theme parks nowadays?

In “Failon Ngayon” tomorrow (Nov 26), anchor Ted Failon looks back into a mini-fair accident that happened in 2006, wherein a 14-year old girl died. It was a painful and tragic scene that continues to haunt the girl’s dad, Greg Picardal, who saw two his daughters fall from the ‘Octopus’ ride.

Five years have passed since the accident killed Picardal’s daughter Kristine and caused his other daughter Kimberly a one-month confinement, but justice remains elusive. According to the president of the National Owner’s Organization of Mini Fairs and Amusement (NOOMA) Leonora Konischi, the government must support them financially so that they can improve the maintenance of their rides and avoid accidents.
