Can P-Noy Fix the Public Health System?

July 12, 2010 by · 4 Comments

Dilapidated hospitals with outdated facilities, patients forced to rent their own oxygen tanks, and the shortage of medicines and health centers – these are just some of the problems in the public health sector that President Noynoy Aquino will have to solve in his administration.

How will he be able to solve all these and more health issues with just a P33.7 billion budget or 70 centavos per citizen—an amount that can’t even buy a single Paracetamol.

Join Abner Mercado as he visits different public hospitals around Metro Manila to exposes all the inadequacies in the country’s public hospitals on “The Correspondents” this Tuesday (July 13) right after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.

RP, A Cellphone Country in ‘The Correspondents’

May 31, 2010 by · 4 Comments

The Philippines has two faces — one face shows Filipinos keeping up with the rest of the world with its citizens, rich and poor, owning cellphones and other gadgets. The other shows citizens still languishing in poverty, without access to a decent toilet, if none at all.

This is the sad reality to be exposed by Karen Davila this Tuesday (June 1) on “The Correspondents.”

According to a study, only 76.8 percent of households in the whole Philippines have bathrooms. In Phase 8 in Caloocan, 252 families share only 25 bathrooms while residents in an area in Pampanga “strike anywhere” to appease the call of nature.

See how the lack of toilets mirror the poverty in the country in Karen Davila’s report this Thursday (June 1) on “The Correspondents,” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.

Who Will Lead the Next Congress in ‘The Correspondents’

May 24, 2010 by · 3 Comments

Speculations have already arisen about the composition of the House of Representatives under the administration of leading presidential candidate Sen. Noynoy Aquino.

The importance of clout in the House was proven when Malacañang allies in Congress voted against the impeachment case against President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

This Thursday (May 25) on “The Correspondents,” Ricky Carandang looks at the possible alliances in the 15th Congress of the Philippines and investigates how these alliances will affect the new leadership.

Many believe getting the support of the majority and the Speaker of the House is integral for the new president to push his platforms and political agenda. But in the incoming Congress, Aquino’s Liberal Party only have 37 members compared to Lakas-Kampi-CMD’s 102 elected representatives including Arroyo.

Find out what lies ahead in Aquino’s Congress in the report of Ricky Carandang this Thursday (May 25) on “The Correspondents,” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.
