If Vampires are doing well at the box-office, they also dominate US television as True Blood and The Vampire Diaries get good bite at the ratings.

HBO’s True Blood, the leading cable network’s hit tv series after the Sopranos, ended its second season this week with an even bigger followers and kick-ass ratings. It’s season 2 finale was seen by 5.1 million viewers which is remarkable considering it’s aired on cable tv.

True Blood‘s highest-rating ever was registered during the tenth episode of the second season which was aired last August 23, 2009. The 5.3 million viewers it garnered that night made it the no. 1 HBO program since The Sopranos.

CW’s The Vampire Diaries, on the other hand, registered 2.3 rating for adults 18-34 and 2.1 rating for adults 18-49 and 4.837 million average viewers according to Nielsen. It is the strongest CW show that premiered this week beating Melrose Place and new season premieres of Gossip Girl, 90210, Supernatural and One Tree Hill.

The Vampire Diaries is expected to gain more televiewers in the episodes to come as it has the same “formula” as the hit novel-turned-flick “Twilight.” The main cast of the series have also charmed a lot of teenagers, which are the show’s main market.

Other non-Vampire tv series that is doing well in the ratings is Fox Network’s musical series “Glee” which has an amazing pilot episode watched by more than 10 million households in the US last May 19, 2009, thanks to American Idol. It’s official “director’s cut” pilot episode was aired last September 9, 2009 with a rating of 4.1 million televiewers. Although the official pilot has declined more than 50%, the 4.1 million is still one of the biggest debuts this season.
