The highest-rating GMA show, on the other hand, was Zorro which settled on no. 4 slot followed by the leading news program 24 Oras.

The highest-rating weekday daytime program was Eat Bulaga! while the no. 1 last weekend was Kapuso Mo, Jessica Sojo. TV5′s Talentadong Pinoy is still the no. 1 game/competition program.

GMA-7 still leads in terms of household ratings and audience share over its nearest competitor, ABS-CBN. Household rating: GMA-7 (15.4 percent) vs. ABS-CBN (14.7 percent); Audience share: GMA-7 (37.5 percent) vs. ABS-CBN (35.7 percent).

GMA-7 had 15 shows in the Top 30 programs, while ABS-CBN had 14 and TV5 had one.

It’s becoming difficult for the masked crusader Zorro to maintain the no. 1 position for GMA because the 2 drama series from ABS-CBN are equally strong. Gone were the days when GMA programs dominate the Top 5 every night, and sometimes they can even strike a Top 6!

Now, primetime leadership is always up for grabs for these 3 primetime programs and the news program 24 Oras. GMA’s newest telenovela “Rosalinda” is having difficulty in penetrating the top 5 as well as other programs like The Wedding and Adik Sa ‘Yo.

The daytime race, on the other hand, still belongs to the longest-running noontime show “Eat Bulaga.” It is safe to assume that GMA is still the dominant station in the daytime race as the no. to no. 4 position is being occupied by its soap operas “Kung Aagawin Mo ang Lahat sa Akin”, “Daisy Siete” and “Ngayon at Kailanman.”

ABS-CBN’s Tayong Dalawa hits no. 1 again in Mega Manila last July 14 by virtue of its 32.8 percent rating. The next night, July 15, Zorro reclaims the top spot with 31.5%. On July 16, the primetime news program of GMA – 24 Oras – soared to 35.5% rating beating Zorro and Tayong Dalawa for the top spot.

If there is no clear winner in the primetime race, it’s a different story in the daytime race as the longest-running noontime show “Eat Bulaga” dominated all daytime programs from the same period.

Last May 23 (Saturday), all three shows of Joey de Leon – Eat Bulaga, Joey’s Quirky World and Star Talk topped the daytime race respectively. In the primetime race, Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho captured the no. 1 spot followed by Imbestigador.

It’s interesting to note that 2 shows from TV5 entered the primetime top 10 last Saturday. Ryan Agoncillo‘s Talentadong Pinoy is on no. 8 while Midnight DJ managed to place 10th overall.

The highly anticipated return of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? as hosted by Vic Sotto failed to penetrate the Top 10.

Mast Sunday (May 24), ASAP’09 trumped GMA’s SOP and captured the no. 1 slot. In the primetime race, Mel and Joey maintained its leadership. Following at no. 2 is All Star K.

Based on the overnight ratings conducted by AGB Nielsen in Mega Manila households, Zorro wasn’t able to maintain the rating of its pilot episode last Monday and succumbed to erstwhile leader Totoy Bato.

I Love Betty La Fea stole the 3rd spot last Tuesday while Tayong Dalawa also managed to place third last Thursday as kapamilya programs continue to threat GMA’s stronghold in the region.

In the daytime race, kapuso shows continue its winning streak as the soap operas Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?, Paano Ba Ang Mangarap? and Daisy Siete, and the longest running noontime show Eat Bulaga remain Mega Manila’s most-viewed programs.

Zorro now holds the record for the best pilot rating by a GMA primetime series for 2009 so far. The Richard Gutierrez-starrer bested Totoy Bato‘s 36.7% last Feb. 23, Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang‘s 32.9% last Feb. 9 and All About Eve‘s 26.1% last March 9.

Although TJ Trinidad claims that he is not really an exclusive kapamilya talent, he expresses his gratitude to the management of ABS-CBN for giving him good projects where he made a name for himself – Basta’t Kasama Kita, Krystala, Da Adventures of Pedro Penduko, Hiram Na Mukha, Rounin and Walang Kapalit.

“I was never under contract with ABS, it’s per project also. Kaya medyo matagal ako na nagkatrabaho uli after Prinsesa ng Banyera, kasi we just had to make sure that everything was okay. Si Tita Annabelle ang nakipag-usap sa ABS-CBN, nag-meeting kami and all that,” said TJ.

“It’s not like bigla na lang kaming lumipat nang walang abiso. Nagpaalam kami nang maayos. We prioritized ABS-CBN first. Eventually, nagpaalam kami nang maayos at nagbigay sila ng green light. Ako, I owe it to the management of ABS. Kami naman, we don’t wanna burn bridges. I don’t think it’s fair for people to speculate. I’ve proven my loyalty to ABS when I was there,” he added.

TJ has worked with GMA before via the Valentine movie “The Promise” topbilled by Angel Locsin and Richard Gutierrez. TJ said he was very happy when he did the said GMA Films Movie because the working atmosphere was nice.

TJ Trinidad will soon be seen in the Richard Gutierrez starrer “Zorro” where he will play Zorro’s nemesis.

He also change managers from June Rufino to Annabelle Rama.

According to PEP, Richard Gutierrez was chosen by GMA-7 management to play the lead role and is now attending fencing lessons. This is going to be Richard’s 7th tv series on GMA after Mulawin, Sugo, Captain Barbell, Lupin, Kamandag, and Codename: Asero.

Richard’s leading lady in Asero, Heart Evangelista, was earlier reported to star in the fantaserye Luna Mystica opposite Mark Anthony Fernandez. So the role for Richard’s leading lady in the Philippine version of Zorro is still up for grabs.

Zorro is perhaps best known for the movie of the same name starring Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta Jones. But the very first movie about the Mexican fictional character was “The Mask of Zorro” in 1920.

On television, Walt Disney came up with Zorro the tv series and it ran from 1957 to 1959. And in 2007, it became a “telenovela” courtesy of Sony TV and Telemundo. It’s entitled Zorro: La Espada Y La Rosa starring the Peruvian actor Christian Meier.
